The new Flickr is gorgeous, is Yahoo! back on track at last?

Well there were two choices. Either Yahoo! had to ditch/sell Flickr, or the company needed to drastically remodel the ageing service to keep up with the times. Thankfully for those of us who are fans, the site has not been sold but instead has received a gorgeous update and more.

Carbon Fiber Bathtub is opulence at its finest

Bathing is a rather important part of our routine. Skip a few days of a little water with some soap, and you won’t be the only one noticing. Normally there are few things we care about with our bathtub. Of course, having a miniature jacuzzi with jets is nice, but you don’t really need something overly extravagant, right?

Standing Knife will never let you down

When you think of using silverware, you likely imagine them neatly perched on a napkin, safe from germs that live on the table. Of course, we all know that the second the meal starts these utensils will be all over the place. You don’t really think about re-engineering silverware to keep it from bacteria, but hey, someone has to, right?

The Gear Ring works like…clockwork?

If you’re a part of the Steampunk culture, you know that functionality and aesthetics are quite important. It always makes for more interesting contraptions and outfits if the marriage of these two are on equal standing. The only problem with the genre is that most of us can’t live the lifestyle 24/7. However, that doesn’t mean you can pay homage to the idea every now and again.

Slate Tabletop Fireplace is one stylish campfire

Staying warm in the winter is no easy task. There are only so many sweaters and layers of socks you can wear at one time. You can opt for a space heater by your desk, but that only warms the lower half of your body, and is quite loud. If you don’t want a whirring heat box huddled next to your toes, there are classier ways to warm up a room.

GLaDOS Ring keeps an eye on your favorite test subject

Do we have any Portal fans out there? While GLaDOS was terrifying, she is very iconic for the game. While you wouldn’t want the real thing around for fear of becoming a test subject, a little reminder can’t do any harm, right?

Cliplets – how to easily create haunting cinemagraphs on your PC for free [Freeware]

In case you hadn’t heard, there’s a growing craze in town and it’s called cinemagraphs. The technique, which was created by Kevin Burg and Jamie Beck in 2009, marries cool photography with the animation qualities of the .GIF image format. The result is something that’s not quite a photo and not quite a video.

Growing Ring – tiny landscape for the concrete jungle

If you went from small town living to life in the big city, there are some aspects you’re really going to miss. Obviously the people are one, but the open spaces and greenery are other factors as well. You don’t exactly see open fields and mossy knolls in the middle of a bustling city, now do you?

Tuebl – The Ultimate EBook Library [Freeware]

It would be unfair to classify Tuebl.ca as just another ebook library, despite the name (TUEBL…The Ultimate EBook Library – geddit?). Think of it more as a website on a mission, a mission to connect authors and readers together directly, with no complicated commercial middlemen involved.

Pixabay – 65000 free public domain images for free download and use [Freeware]

It’s not hard to love websites which offer free stuff, whether it’s music, software or video. But we have a special place reserved for those intrepid folk who roll up their sleeves and brave the water to offer royalty free public domain images. There are so many competitors, and so many duff photos that it’s not an easy job. Which is why it’s really nice to find a site that does it right.

D.E.M.O. – the first multiplayer HTML5 3rd person browser game demo, and the future of games?

The development team behind Playcanvas has been showing off their new HTML5 browser game tools, and one of the demos, fittingly entitled D.E.M.O. is pretty impressive. The demo features a multiplayer, 3rd person shooter all rendered inside the browser, and very smoothly playable as well.

VinePeek – WARNING: compulsive video voyeurism, 6 seconds at a time

Look, if you’ve got anything you want doing for the next 2 hours, for goodness sake don’t…repeat…don’t go to the VinePeek site. The problem is you’ll get sucked into a world full of 6 second video clips culled from the new Twitter Vine service, and it’s not going to let you go. It’s compulsive, addictive and actually should be made illegal. Seriously. Quick warning, it’s unmoderated, which means *anything* could show up. Including cats and worse. Aaargh…

Better Man Than He – one superb song + one MRI machine = awesome debut music video

We’ve got a feeling this is the first ever music video shot entirely inside a medical MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) machine, and it’s a doozy. It’s a fabulous song too, which helps. And no, no magnets were harmed in the making of this video. Full video after the jump.

Voxel Farm – a photorealistic Minecraft game anyone?

Minecraft lovers out there, and we know there are *lots* of you, may be interested to learn that Canadian Miguel Cepero appears to be building what looks like an almost photorealistic derivation of Minecraft, but ‘without zombies’. The project, which seems to be going under the title of Procedural World, is clearly a pet love of his, judging by his blog posts, but we’ve got to say the early video run throughs look amazing.
