The Eccentric Cubicle – new book brings quirky left field DIY to the boring office box

The new Eccentric Cubicle book is chock full of quirky, fun things to make and enjoy while you slog out your life in that grey soul-less box of a cubicle month after month, week after…[that’s enough…Ed]. My personal fave is this BallistaMail gadget, otherwise known as a Projectile-to-Peer (P2P) Intercubicle Messaging device. A great geek fun-fest for handy harrys everywhere. Office Accessories from a Parallel Universe. Indeed! $19.79.  The intent of this book is to infuse the new-school Maker community…

Killer Bean Forever – one man’s animated movie may outshine Hollywood

Killer Bean Forever. Jeff Lew has spent four years and all his savings producing a full length animated feature film. And now it’s almost ready. The trailer is up, and it’s an astonishing piece of work, worthy of the best that Hollywood could offer. More importantly, it shows that you don’t need a big studio any more to produce world class material. You just need talent, a large array of computing power and a credit card. Interesting. [NB. Not safe…

Mod My Life – scary new online entertainment arrives

Mod My Life. Remember Subservient Chicken? Yeah, well this ‘strange new brand of entertainment’ takes it one step further. You get to control a person out on the street. In fact you get to control their whole life for a period of time while the ‘session’ is active. Sound a bit too Aldous Huxley for ya? Yeah here too.  Imagine being able to control people by telling them what to do, what to say, and where to go. Imagine being able to see and hear the world around…

Pac Gentleman – steampunk, retro, video game remake…

Pac Gentleman is a cute and beautifully rendered remake of the classic coin-op for the Victorian age. Or something like that. [Thanks Tahir]  When this game was first released in 1880 it was so hugely popular in taverns and inns that the bank of England was forced to mint more threepenny bits to keep up with demand. The game was created by messrs Nam & Nam and Co. as a novelty pastime for the masses. Outdoing the previous top public…

Slideoo – instant Flickr slide show maker

Slideoo is a nifty instant slideshow creator for Flickr users. Actually the Belgium developers plan to open it out to other photo services like Picasa soon, but for now it’s the big F. only. Why’s it worth mentioning? Because it’s fast. And you can use the resulting code to embed your show anywhere you like – blog, social networking place etc etc.  Slideoo is an experiment from Belgium based web and SMS application creator Positiveluck, providing a clean, horizontal slideshow tool…

Duevel Planets Speakers – omni directional music of the spheres

Duevel Planets Hi-Fi Speakers. The little silver orbs – planets, geddit? – apparently spread the sound around the whole room, hence the 360 degree omni-directional marketing blurb. Does this mean surround sound is dead? Probably not. Do we suggest you upgrade your $50.00 BlowHard speakers tomorrow morning? Probably not. Unless you have £1295.00 hanging around in a cookie jar somewhere.  The Planets feature a specialty short horn tweeter, high efficiency woofer and advanced crossover that surpasses anything from traditional audio…

Blue LED Cross – religion needs a new message?

The WL777PB Blue LED Cross looks, at first sight, to be something of a strange combination. Religious icon and 21st century technology? What are the Korean manufacturers trying to say to us here? Religion has more of a message to give? Religion’s got bling? Faith gets you noticed? Whatever it is, we have the feeling that this might not be the best way to go about it. Anyhoo, $38.32 in Korean notes will definitely get you noticed by your local Archbishop. Tags:…

Glass Toilets – when white porcelain just doesn’t do it

Dude, forget about those plain old boring toilet systems, what you really really need is a Glass Toilet in one of a number of tasteless…er…tasteful styles and designs. Like this Bass fish model, with a delightful fish staring at you as you do your business. Oh yes, this is what we want, more interesting toiletware. Watch the video if you need more convincing. $295.00.   A beautiful addition to any angler’s or outdoor enthusiast’s bathroom. This largemouth bass hunts for…

21 Mad Skillz Videos – awesome feats of skill and dexterity

Sometimes it helps to remember that there are people out there just doing their thing. Their skillful, artistic, painfully learned, incredible, practiced thing. Enjoy! World’s Fastest Secretary. She’s not real. No way. Nope. Can’t be? Speed Climbing. 400 foot straight up? Without a rope? On bare rock? Airbus Acrobatics. This pilot is either a genius or insane. Skateboarding Master. Rodney is just chuffin’ unbelievable. Dice Stacking Genius. So fast it looks like camera trickery. Rubik Madness. One handed Rubik’s Cube in 20…

Graffiti Train – tag your own rail carriage for fun and posterity

The Graffiti Train is a model railway carriage that comes with a set of suitably def decals that you can stick where you like without fear of transport police hounding you down and beating you to within an inch of your miserable worthless life. So if you’ve ever had an urge to hang upside down on a rope from a railway bridge and spray TRAKZZ on the wall, now’s your chance to indulge. Safely and legally. Does that do it for…

Smart Furniture – when good sofas go bad…

This collection of Smart Furniture projects and products is rather cool. Some of the stuff is also a little scary, like the automated recording stool featured above and the toilet that knows more about you than your doctor. They have, however, missed out on the table that clears itself, which is a shame.  This stool is actually a small robot that follows people around while recording their conversations. It then moves around to other people in the room and plays back the…

La Bague Gazon – your own little finger meadow

La Bague Gazon. Fashion jewellery meets horticulture in this delicious fusion of art and nature. Porcelain fashion rings, supplied with a compost and grass seed mix which you sow and cultivate for 15 days before wearing. How terribly modern. €120.00 a ring.  Put in a light place, avoiding direct sunlight and keep the compost moist. You will have to wait 15 days before you can wear the ring. Happy growing! Sneaker Power – DIY energy from roller shoes

The Energy Harvesting Sneakers produce power from roller sneakers to drive a small display. It’s part of a Kinetic Shoes art project at the moment, but why not extend the concept and give everyone a chance to produce their own power through motion, or what they call power harvesting? [PDF] Accelerometers, gyros, roller ball mechanisms, even solar panels – parcel them all up into a Personal Power Pack and never have to worry about charging your phone or music player again. Cool.
