You are getting sleepy…

The Hypnodisk. $350.00. Ferrety reader Kaden makes ‘unconventional contrivances and machina arcana.’ They’re fun and rather nicely done, methinks.  The new benchmark in desk accessories, the ideal gift for the hard-to-buy-for, and significantly more appropriate recognition for the Boardroom Brigadier than another damned soapstone carving of a hooded ptarmigan.

Strange but true.

The Strangerhood. A soap opera set and performed within the Sims 2 computer game? Too weird.  The Strangerhood began in the summer of 2004 when Burnie Burns and the rest of the Rooster Teeth Productions crew realized that they would not be satisfied until they spent every single free second making some kind of internet cartoon. They scanned the horizon for the latest and greatest new games, and settled on the obvious choice – The Sims 2.

Artocracy.

Artocracy. Art for the masses, by the masses? Power up the inkjet printer and play!  Artocracy was started to help artists make extra money through digital and downloadable prints…We realize that a digital print is not a one of a kind artwork; they are not meant to be. These prints are to bring challenging ideas, innovative artworks, and people together. Not all art has to be precious, there is a freedom in having it not be precious. Artocracy is about the…

Baby bling.

Infantile’s Gold Chains T for baby. $22.00. Er…very New York, eh?  Teach your kid the advantages of flossing at a young age — Brooklyn-based artist Maya Hayuk comes correct with these gold ropes. “Ma ma,” “da da,” “bling bling.” Makes sense to us.

Water ballet.

The Water Ballet Desktop Dancing Fountain. Oh yes, it sounds good now. But who’s going to clean up the mess after it hears your Metallica collection at full blast, eh? Who? $129.95.  Desktop dancing fountain synchronizes water to the music you play! Learn to draw.

Michael Erickson wants to teach us how to draw stuff. Yes Please Michael! [Update:…and indeed why not check out Betty Edwards’ site and theories too? Thanks L!]  I propose to teach you the visual alphabet, and some grammar and syntax, so you CAN begin to use visual communication-in your work, your studies and in your life. The following material is my approach in a nutshell, to teaching people to draw. It is a series of concepts and ideas that when…

Artistic license.

A Painting a Day. Great blog with a great idea from Duane Keiser. Except everything seems to sell out instantly!  For this blog I’m going to try to make a painting each day (starting 12/10/2004.) Most of the paintings on this blog will be postcard-sized oil sketches (I call them Postcard Paintings.) I paint them on site, using a modified cigar box as an easel. Occasionally I may post a larger, more finished painting, in which case I’ll include the…

Sushi clock.

The Sushi Clock. $260.00. Don’t be fooled by cheap imitations, this little beauty is made from ‘authentic pieces of hand-crafted wax sushi’ . Yum!  Featuring authentic pieces of hand-crafted wax sushi, specially coated for long life, this amazing clock faithfully replicates a tray of tasty take-out sushi. To complete the illusion, the hands of the clock are chopsticks, and the second hand is a toothpick. The sushi is amazing, too, created by top-name Japanese wax food artsists [sic] at Maizuru…

Artistic domain.

Domain Art. Domain names as art. Fascinating concept. I think it goes something like ‘buy the artistic representation of the domain name and get the actual domain name thrown in as part of the deal.’ I think.  The buyer of each work in the Domain Art series becomes the legal owner of the web address and the global real estate that makes up the title and image of the art piece. As well as existing as a digital online installation each artwork…

Images galore.

Yet more free photo sites. FreeFoto.com and StockVault. Well, I think it’s fairly safe to say that the world is never going to be short of a free image or two again. Much more interesting, though, is the ArtBitz site, which offers real live illustrations for very reasonable prices. Super hand drawn clipart if you will, like the fabbo surf scene above. It’s a small collection right now, but still worth a look.

Cap’n Nemo.

Nemo Gould likes robots. In particular it seems that he enjoys making sculptures and masks which reflect the genre. And who are we to argue, eh? Prices on application.  Oh, and did we mention that a lot of them move too?
