Neodymium Magnet N50 – the most dangerous natural magnet in the world?

You may, like us, have believed that a magnet was a fun thing that you clicked around with on your desk while waiting for your coffee to cool down, but it seems that there are magnets. And then there are magnets. No, we’re not talking about industrial strength versions which can grab a car and hoist it into a crusher, we’re talking tiny domestic products which are scary.

Don’t delete your Yahoo account if you cherish your name or reputation

Now here’s a bizarre thing. Apparently, according to the cancellation terms and conditions posted on the Yahoo! site, if you delete your account, not only do you lose ALL of your Yahoo! content, including your Flickr photos and paid accounts, but the company also reserves the right to re-issue your Yahoo! ID and profile names to any else who comes along later. “Additionally, due to the limited number of names available, we may allow other users to sign up for…

The weirdness of project crowdfunding – Part 1

As regular readers know, we’re kind of ambivalent towards the craze of crowdfunding (e.g. Kickstarter, IndieGogo et al), primarily because it’s still a very untested way of funding projects and products. Some projects are obviously worthwhile, have a great team and fulfill a definite need for society at large, while others offer more iPhone cases. Two examples of this wide disparity of projects spring to mind immediately, because of their wildly different situations.

Humanix iSAVE Electric Car looks after pedestrians, your bank balance and the planet

A bunch of wonderfully insane clever quirky chaps in Japan have come up with a solution to all our road traffic accident problems. The one where we regularly kill off the population of a small town every year through bad, unlucky or plain stupid driving mistakes. They’ve decided to ignore the high tech solutions like self-driving or radar equipped vehicles and instead have gone for the most basic, obvious solution of all. Genius or madmen?

The Printed Christmas Tree Poster guarantees you’ll have the worst Christmas ever

We don’t often feature stuff which is so horrendous it makes us gasp, but in this case we’ve made an exception as a public service warning. So for all those good folk who are thinking of buying this Printed Christmas Tree Poster as a replacement for a real or plastic Yuletide tree, we urge you to think again. If only for the sake of the children.

Q-Link Cell Phone Protection Pendant – for those times when tin-foil just isn’t enough

There’s no question that unless we live high up in a remote mountain village somewhere, we’re all swimming in a sea of electromagnetic radiation. Visible light, UV, gamma, and of course in modern day purgatory we’re all swamped by WiFi and cell phone radiation, in homes, offices and beyond. For some people, with ultra sensitivity, this immersion can be crippling.

UpRight Sleeper – the ultimate snooze fool tool?

Sometimes inventions, no matter how good they are or how useful, leave one a little breathless with surprise. It may be because they’re expensive, weird, or because they’re tackling a problem you didn’t know even existed. Well we’ve found one that seems to be none of the above, although it certainly looks like it’ll raise eyebrows wherever it’s used.

50 Shades of Bacon – really?

OK, this has gone far enough peeps. We’ve seen the parodies, the videos, the musicals (there’s a musical right?) and no doubt there’s an upcoming movie starring Zooey Deschanel and Henry Winkler, but a bacon cookbook? Really? Fifty Shades of Bacon makes no pretence at haut cuisine either. We’re talking ‘how to boil an egg’ levels of artistry, wrapped up in a flavorful, benign and ever so safe for work format. Ketophiles, start your engines.

Don’t worry, you can now be treated for your mobile phone addiction

Well it’s official. After a fair amount of ‘is it, or isn’t it?‘ time, nomophobia, or the fear of being without your mobile phone, has finally become a real treatable illness. How do we know? Well it’s moved out of the sensational news media realm and onto the price lists of psychiatric clinics around the world. Scary eh?
