Climate Resistant Mutations – wild wheat may provide key to avoid future famines

Climate change is a big deal for our food supply. Many of the strains of food producing plants we rely on to feed vast amounts of people simply don’t have what it takes to survive the rising temperatures, including wheat. There’s some good news though, scientist have found that some strands of wild wheat have beneficial mutations that make give them an edge when it comes to change.

Ozone Hole Smaller than Normal – smallest it has been in thirty years

We’ve been hearing about the hole in the ozone layer since the 80s. Man made chemicals caused it and there was a substantial push for those chemicals to be taken out of production. Which is great. The hole this year is the smallest it’s been in the thirty years! But it has nothing to do with human effort.

Climate Change True Or False – people know a lot but a fake can ruin the whole pot

There’s information coming at people from all sides these days and not all of it is true. When we’re talking about climate change, it’s important that people are getting the facts and not the fictions because once the false information has taken hold, it’s hard to tell it apart from the truth.

The Burning of the Amazon is a Problem – but not for oxygen

The Amazon produces a lot of oxygen which is no surprise, it’s a lot of plants! But that isn’t the reason why we should care that it’s being burnt down. Most of our oxygen comes from water and is already in the atmosphere so the forest’s destruction isn’t going to impact that but it’s STILL a problem.

Malware in Charger Cables – be aware of whose cord you borrow

Sharing charger cords is a common practice. Friends, people you barely speak to in the office, family, strangers, it doesn’t matter. We all have borrowed them when the battery is dying on our devices. New security concerns may make us second guess that practice. Turns out you can hack devices through charger cables.

The Dust Bowl Of Tomorrow – if we don’t want to see it, we need to care for our land better

How we manage our dirt is going to be so important in the coming years. As temperatures get higher and the air gets drier, we want to make sure that we aren’t setting ourselves up for another Dust Bowl event. This isn’t a problem for many parts of the world but if you live in one where great plains can suddenly dry out and lead to clouds of dirt, you may want to be wary.

Food Scarcity As Climate Changes – as the crisis continues some countries more in danger than others

The climate crisis isn’t going to affect everyone equally. We’ve know that for quite some time but a new report is a harrowing reminder of the inequality of the issue. Burundi in Africa is one of the hardest hit countries in the world, in regards to food, by the changing climate and yet, they contribute very little CO2 to the problem. They’re not alone.

No Fan In Dry Heat – new study points to fans as unhelpful when the weather is hot and dry

When it gets hot out, we generally reach for a fan when we can but a new study shows that turning on the box fan when the temperature is really soaring may not be the best idea, especially if you happen to be in a dry heat. Turning on a fan in a dry heat wave may leave you worse for wear.
