60207 – comparison shop with your cell phone

60207 is a brand new comparison shopping service for your mobile phone.Use it to find the best Internet prices on white and electrical goods by sending a text message to…ah…60207. They’ll send you back the three best prices for that product. Not a new idea of course, but interesting to see another company join the market. Even if it’s UK only.  Choose a product in a store. Copy the manufacturers’ name and product code into a new text message. Send the…

FoxyTag – speed camera tagging

FoxyTag. A free offering which lets the driving community tag and mark speed cameras as a collective act of benevolence. You need the Java program, a compatible handset, a GPS unit and the patience to press a button on your phone every time you pass a camera. Is this a good thing…?  FoxyTag does not motivate speeding or any other risky behavior. On the other hand, FoxyTag allows the driver to concentrate on the road instead of having is eyes fixed on the speedometer,…

RoamCon – control your home while you roam

RoamCon lets you control your home from your mobile phone and receive alerts if anything happens while you’re sunning yourself on the beach. We’re talking remote CCTV security cameras, heating, lighting, smoke detectors and all that kind of stuff handled via IP and a super whizzy DVR. Judging by the blurb it’s designed for rich people (You can use the system in your City flat to monitor your house in the Cotswolds and your apartment in the Antibes) but hey, who…

If the folk at CSR have their way with this reference design, there will be a shed load of Voice over WiFi handsets hitting the streets sometime soon. Almost tempted to go into business myself with a bill of materials at less than $15.00. Just add your own UI, shove on a case and Bob’s your billionaire phone magnate buddy.  CSR’s free reference design for voice-over-Wi-Fi phones sets new standards of performance in this exciting market: * An exceptionally small bill…

Zonetag

Zonetag. Cool instant location tagging of your camera phone shots. Shoot, tag and upload to Flickr. Sound like fun?  ZoneTag can automatically tag your photos with the location, based on the cell tower, in which they were taken. The location of the cell tower is not known until our user community updates the city, state, or zip code of their photos on Flickr. ZoneTag is then able to map the cell tower to the location.

Pinger – voice SMS

Pinger. Very cool mobile application that lets you send voice messages instantly to someone’s cell phone or email without having to make a call. Kind of a cross between push to talk and SMS. The service acts as a central server and notifies the recipient (or group) that there’s a message they need to pick up, which they hear by dialling a special number. The key thing is that it’s super easy to reply, which is very clever. Unfortunately US only at…

Fring – Skype for mobiles

Fring. Wow, yet another astonishingly cool tech launches. Basically we’re talking mobile P2P VoIP. So now you can use Skype or Google Talk on your mobile phone, with full functionality, no need for additional hardware or a PC in between. Forget about Eqo, with its patchy functionality, this puppy works. I installed Fring in about 5 minutes over SMS and immediately all of my Skype contacts appeared on my handset ready to chat, call or Skype Out. Super super clever. No…

Navman Mobile Travel Assist for S60 phones.

The Navman Mobile Travel Assist GPS for Smartphones. I’ve recently been testing out a Navman GPS satellite navigation product – the iCN720 – and quite honestly have been blown away by how good it is. It’s a great system, and it’s taught me one thing, that not all GPS systems are equal. The Navman has hands-down beaten out the Tom-Tom, Route 66 and other GPS systems I’ve used in the past, and that’s without including the NavPix feature which is…
