Penguin Teaboy – a perfick cuppa evry time…

The Penguin Teaboy is a cute way of making sure you get the hot beverage you want, at the strength you need. Set the timer and it’ll dunk the bag for the exact time required. Great for avoiding those insipid fruit tea concoctions which usually taste more of teabag paper than actual rosehip. Not that we drink rosehip you understand, cos we’re much too macho for that. Nope, we generally snort pure cut espresso grande up each nostril. Honest. $18.98. [Via Stylehive]  …

Weather Forecasting Umbrella – LED lights indicate storms

The Weather Forecasting Umbrella is almost a genius product. The handle has a built in radio receiver which continually picks up Accuweather reports and displays rain warnings as flashing LED lights. The faster the flash, the more chance of rain. The problem? Well if you’re carrying the thing, it’s pretty clear that you’re expecting a cloudburst anyway, eh? Or are you just a paranoid hydrophobe? $139.95.  This is the only umbrella that illuminates the base of its handle to alert…

Handsfree Transporter – the no hands Segway?

So German engineer Ulrich Kahlert has ripped apart a Segway and reconfigured it to make a Handsfree Transporter, which is a hands free scooter thingy built for specific tasks. The applications look interesting too, ranging from a cool Steadicam system or worker transport to a novelty entertainment and advertising tool. Check out some of the videos and see what you think. The one where the guy’s tracking the runners and cyclists through the park woods is cool (under CamTransport).  [Via Metafilter] Tags: segway, handfree+transporter

Sound Studio HS668 – sound and beauty in one glorious package

The Hisonic Sound Studio HS668 hereby receives the coveted Ferret Award for the ugliest digital product of 2007. Heck and we’ll throw in 2006 as well just for the fun of it. Billed as an ‘All in One Digital Speaker System’,  it has clearly been designed for people who listen to their music in the dark. It accepts input from flash memory drives via a USB port, as well as the usual audio in sockets on the back, and the company…

LightCam Flashlight DVR – nightwatchman’s tour de force

The LightCam Flashlight DVR is a strange looking beast which combines an LED flashlight and a Linux powered video recorder into one ugly security product. Up to 15 fps video at 320×240 resolution, so it’s not going to get you an Oscar nomination for cinematography, but hey the most likely shot you’re going to take is some guy swinging a tire iron at your head so who needs HD? The $500 unit also sports an in-built microphone (perfect for those…

Pinqy Fire Extinguisher – tiny but useful anti-fire implement

Pinqy Fire Extinguisher. We’re trying to work out why you’d need a ‘discreet’ tool for putting out fires (is it because you don’t want to scare the neighbours?) but that notwithstanding, we like this product because it just feels right. A quick blast of whatever is in this 14cm tall appliance looks to be enough to smother most early stage flare ups. Which makes it a nice thing to have around for emergencies, eh? £29.95. [Via ILTLI]  With its lightweight…

AeroGem Aerogel Pendants are handcrafted with stained glass, silver Titanium end caps and 3mm of Aerogel ‘the lightest material in the world’. It’s a long way from a NASA space project, and way away from the early promise of a new substance looking for a problem, but hey, you’ve got to grab your chances right? $148.00 per box of four.  Each pendant consists of a 3mm pure Aerogel core that is fused inside a hand wound helix silver casing [in…

Memole Pad – the ‘etch-a-sketch’ message pad

The Memole Pad seems to be a kind of re-writable message pad which is based around the venerable Etch-a-Sketch technology. Of course, since this is a Korean site we could be completely wrong, but we’re willing to take a risk. Could this type of retro tech find other uses, like note takers and the like? Probably not. $32.57 in Korean stuff. Tags: memole, etch+a+sketch, notebook

Bring it to Life Stickers – aaargh…it talks….

Bring it to Life Stickers. Now come on, seriously. If you’re so sad that you need to make your stapler look like Aunt Maude, then you need help. Remember folks, anthropomorphism is the last pathetic refuge of the lonely geek. Just ask Suki, my cute likkle laptop. She knows. $7.95 (£3.58).  What could be funnier than giving your shredder some fangs, a wacky set of buck teeth on your hole punch, a glare on your stapler that says – hands off! If you want…

MiniCat – the backpack sailing boat

The MiniCat is the perfect sailing craft for that spontaneous weekend away. Just sling it over your shoulder, toodle down to the nearest waterhole and bob around to your heart’s content, making pirate noises and fishing for your supper. Ah, if only life were that simple, though. Priced from an arm wrenching £2450.00.  Assembling the MiniCat is a doddle. Its smart design means that one person can assemble it, without tools, in around 30 minutes. And because the entire kit…
