USB Golden Piggy Memory Card Reader – plated plugins

The Gold Piggy USB T-Flash Card Reader. One day we’ll look back at these times and realize that we were in the golden age of technology. Not right now, one day. So until then, we’ll have to make do with a decidedly dodgy fake gold pig card reader. Or whatever. $8.00.  USB Golden Piggy T-Flash / Micro SD Card Reader is an ideal way to bridge the gap between your desktop computer and new multi-function cell phones and other portable…

Smiley Necklaces – 14K gold geek chic

These 14K Gold Smiley Necklaces are the height of gawky geeky fashion ferment, especially if you’re into making hip personal statements from your neckline. $275.00 buys you any one of a series of mood symbols that will endear you to all and sundry. Perhaps.  Purely textual communication–like email, txting, posting and IMing–could lead to even simple statements being easily misinterpreted. Thanks to emoticons, we can easily convey emotion or intent with common ASCII punctuation. While the smiley :-) is a fairly…

5 megapixel camera phone heralds the future – commodity cometh

The CT-6618 5.0 Megapixel Camera Phone may well point the way to the future commoditisation of mobile handsets. Of course there’s no guarantee that the image quality will be anything other than awful, but it’s interesting, is it not children, that we’re now seeing no-brand, high spec handsets emerging from the Far East at reasonable prices. Watch the skies…$280.00.  5.0 mega pixels, auto focus digital camera with TV-Out function. 3″ QVGA 26K Touch Screen with Music and Video playback for…

SeeReal Hologram Television – rocket packs and flying cars too

The boffins at SeeReal are today unveiling their new electro-holography technology which they claim will deliver a real 3D television display without special glasses or the like. It all sounds a bit off planet, especially since there appear to be no better images of the tech than this rather obvious illustration, so we’ll hold our judgement, if not breath, until something concrete arrives.  SeeReal’s new breakthrough approach to electro-holography overcomes these two challenges through Tracked Viewing Window technology and real-time encoding of…

The Golf Swing Analyser Watch – time to give up?

The Golf Swing Analyser Watch measures your tempo, rhythm, swing and club speed. It does all this with the help of three – count ‘em – accelerometers and presumably lots of smarts. To be honest if you wanna pay us a paltry sum we’ll save you a lot of grief and tell you exactly what we think of your swing. Of course this may not be quite as helpful, but what the heck…. $399.95.  This device is as unobtrusive as a wristwatch and…

The Dr Who Phone Flasher…er…flashes and in twirls when a call arrives on your mobile phone. iLoad – copy from CD to iPod fast, and with no PC

The iLoad lets you transfer material from your CDs to you iPod at 5 times faster than ‘real time’. And without a computer in the way. So a full audio CD should take around 8 minutes to transfer across. Not a bad idea, eh? Speeds are affected by scratches on the disc though, so very old collections could take 40 years or so to copy across. Or something like that. $299.00.  iLoad offers convenience and portability. No waiting for a computer…

The $139.00 computer – how low can they go?

Ugly as sin but twice as cheap, the MadTux MT-100 Low Cost Linux PC is proof that computers are so totally commodity products right now. $139.00 – think about it – buys you a 1.5GHz processor, 256 MB of RAM, a 13.5 GB hard drive and the usual stuff like Ethernet networking (but no wireless). You’ll have to supply your own keyboard, mouse and CD/DVD drive, but hey, you’ve got three of each lying around in a cupboard, right? Astonishing how far (low?)…

Sonim XP1 Ruggedised Cell Phone – don’t leave your cave without one
