Screenshot Captor gives you the most control over your screenshots [Daily Freeware]

Most people don’t think a lot about taking screenshots. It’s a nice way to capture an error message to have someone look at, or take a picture of a piece of software as its running. However, there are some people that use this feature a lot, so much that simply hitting the print screen button isn’t enough. For those people, there’s Screenshot Captor.

You’d think that if you have a wired connection with internet coming in, that you’d be able to broadcast it wirelessly to a laptop, tablet, or phone. However, this isn’t a feature that’s natively supported on Windows. Thankfully there’s Virtual Router, which can do exactly what you need.

Google brings Chrome to Android devices [Daily Freeware]

Since its release back in 2008, Google Chrome has become one of the most popular browsers around. What’s strange is that despite the company building an entire mobile platform, Chrome has been strangely absent in the mobile market. However, the company has announced that this has changed, and it looks like it has been worth the wait.

Create beautiful HDR images for free with Picturenaut [Daily Freeware]

Every now and then you’ll come across a picture that looks too good to be true. The colors seem to burst forth in a way that doesn’t seem natural. You might think that it’s a simple Photoshop job, but there’s more to it than that. A lot of these images are created using multiple shots that were taken with different settings. The blending of these is what’s known as HDR photography. So what do you need, in order to make…

Find out what’s taking up space on your hard drive with SpaceSniffer [Daily Freeware]

Have you ever tried to install a new program or game on your computer, only to be told that you didn’t have enough free space? Sure, the guy that sold you the computer said that you’d never need more than 100GB, but that’s obviously not the case. So now you have to set out on the task of finding out just what is taking up all of that space. You can easily check on the programs you’ve installed, but when…

Find ratings on individual dishes with Foodspotting [Daily Freeware]

Have you ever found yourself at a fancy restaurant, and not known what to order? The worst is when you’re looking at the menu, and there are no pictures to show you what each dish even looks like. You might be able to glance at a few people’s plates on the way to the bathroom, but that’s not really going to do you much good. Wouldn’t it be great if there was a smartphone app that would give you pictures…

ooVoo does free 6-way video calling and more [Daily Freeware]

When most people think about video conferencing, Skype is usually what comes to mind. I use the service for text, voice and video chatting with a number of people. I’ll use the first two with groups of people, however, I can’t say that I’ve done a video conference with more than one person. The main reason for this is because I’m cheap, and don’t feel like paying for the service. Thankfully, there are other video chat clients that let you…

Marker.to is a virtual highlighter for the web [Daily Freeware]

When in college, it’s common to highlight sections of text in your books, to remember later. This is considerably easier than stopping every few sentences, and then copying down the text into a notebook. When you’re reading something online, you can’t exactly pick up a highlighter and start marking up your screen. However, with the right software, you can accomplish the same thing with your mouse (and without ruining your monitor).

WanderPlayer turns your smartphone into a game controller for your PC [Daily Freeware]

There’s always a huge debate as to whether PC’s or consoles are better for playing video games. I lean toward PCs for a variety of reasons. One of my favorite reasons is the abundance of free games. After all, not spending money is one of my favorite activities. But some games just don’t feel right with a mouse and keyboard. You long to have a controller sitting in your hands. If you don’t own a compatible one, then that means…

Vocalyze reads your daily news to you [Daily Freeware]

I’m the type of person who loves reading books, and enjoys pouring over articles full of information. In school they described this as being a visual learner. Of course, there are plenty of people that process information better when they hear it. That’s why audio tapes, talk radio, and podcasts exist. I’m sure that the same people that use those services wouldn’t mind having a way to easily convert text from websites into audio form. If you’re one of those…

PureText automatically strips out rich formatting when you paste text [Daily Freeware]

I’ve done a lot of writing on sites that use WordPress. However, after nearly five years of doing it, my basic process hasn’t changed much. I write my piece in OpenOffice Writer, then copy/paste it to Notepad, then copy/paste it into WordPress. The middle step doesn’t take very long, but it is necessary to strip out the rich formatting. However, with a handy little piece of freeware, I can finally eliminate that step.

Install Plan B after you lose your Android phone to track it down [Daily Freeware]

Smartphones can do so many wonderful tasks, and these days most of us would feel lost without our favorite mobile device. Unfortunately, sometimes you lose track of your phone. Maybe it slipped out of your pocket when you were in a cab, or perhaps someone swiped it from your table at the coffee shop. Whatever the case, you can at least be comforted, since you installed tracking software on your phone. Wait, you didn’t? Well if you have an Android…

Backup one computer’s files to another with CrashPlan

As someone who has spent years working in IT, I know the look of horror that people get when you ask do you have everything backed up? If you take no other steps of preventative maintenance with your computer, schedule regular backups. Don’t have a spare external hard drive or file server to use for backups? That’s okay. If you’ve got another computer in your house that has plenty of free space on it, you can utilize those extra gigabytes…

We The Lobby uses crowdfunding to lobby for non-corporate causes [Daily Freeware]

During the last few months, and especially in recent weeks there has been a lot of talk about SOPA and PIPA. Thankfully these bills, which had the potential to destroy the open internet as we know it, have been shelved. Of course, that doesn’t mean that they won’t be brought up again at a later time. What’s sad is that when you look behind these proposed pieces of legislature, you find little more than a group of lobbyists funded by…
