New energy saving woodstove captures and uses heat for water

Winter is still very present in many parts of the world, though there are signs that spring is coming. But a good woodstove is still an important device for heating and improvements are always welcome. Bodart & Gonay, a Belgian fireplace manufacturer, has come up with a great improvement on its Infire 680 woodstove insert. Its innovative boiler technology recovers convection heat and uses it for hot water. Combined together, this new innovative system not only heats your home, it…

Motion-Sensing LED Track Lights – Providing light at night, but not too much light.

Night lights don’t seem to put out too much light when you test them out during the day, but those little bulbs can seem like a miniature sun when you’re trying to get some shut-eye in a dark room. Two choices – Wake others up by shattering the dark with that bright light or fumble around in the dark. Oh wait. Now there’s a third choice.

Telescoping Selfie Arm – Put some distance between the phone and your face.

The not-so-humble selfie has been elevated to an art form, becoming a standard part of social media. Unfortunately, most selfies give a too-close view up the subject’s nose because the phone is so close to your face. Now, you can add a little distance to your selfie.

Londeners enjoy fresh produce grown underground

We’re definitely in the throws of winter – heavy snowstorms and flooding in many parts of the world. This time of year having fresh produce can be problematic. But Londoners have a new alternative. Growing Underground farm is a new 2.5-acre farm located one hundred feet below the streets of London. Located under the Northern Line near Clapham North tube station on property leased from the London Underground. Zero Carbon Food owners Richard Ballard and Steven Dring have partnered with…

Runner’s Speaker Vest – Keep your ears clear while you beat feet

You know sitting in front of the computer or TV all day is bad for you, which is why you make sure to run, walk, or jog every day. Right? Of course, nothing eases the monotony of running when nothing is chasing you like listening to your favorite tunes. Unfortunately, you take your life in your hands every time you shut out the world with earbuds or headphones.

Liftware – Reducing the anxiety of mealtime by reducing tremors

For many people, eating a meal is a time filled with challenges and insecurity. Tremors associated with Parkinson’s Disease and Essential Tremor can make seemingly simple tasks such as using silverware a complicated endeavor that takes the joy out of mealtime. Now, the tremor can be reduced in your eating utensils even if it can’t be reduced in your hands.

Everpurse – Your phone goes in your purse anyway so why not charge it while it’s there

It’s all about staying connected these days, which is why it’s always nice to discover something that will charge our smartphones while we’re on the go. TellSpec tells consumers just what’s in their food

A war is taking place between consumers wanting to know more of what’s in their food and government lobbyists dedicated to making sure that doesn’t happen. The concerns go beyond getting labels on food containing genetically modified ingredients. A new device called TellSpec will let consumers know the details of what’s really in their food. Developed by Isabel Hoffmann with mathematician Stephen Watson, this hand-held scanner will warn you about chemicals, allergens and ingredients you’d rather avoid, help you figure…

Thermodynamic Cell Phone Charger – A low-tech way to keep your hi-tech phone alive

It’s a cruel irony of our hi-tech life that smartphones allow us to stay connected with the rest of the world 99% of the time, but during that 1%, when we really need that digital lifeline (like during storms or power outages), we become victims of that little flashing battery icon. How do you charge a phone when there’s no power? You use science.

Wipebook – It’s like a big Whiteboard stuffed into a notebook

Students are getting ready to enjoy a much-needed break and looking forward to Santa bringing them notebooks for Christmas. Notebooks? Yes, because the old ones are filled to the brim, with assorted notes being scribbled on every spare inch of paper available. Wouldn’t it be easier – and cheaper – to simply erase all those unnecessary notes and use the same notebook again? Now you can.
