Open Street Map.

Open Street Map. The free wiki world map. Ambitious project at point zero right now, so don’t expect to see much on the site. But definitely worth watching/supporting, don’t you think?  OpenStreetMap is a project aimed squarely at creating and providing free geographic data such as street maps to anyone who wants them. This is because most maps you might think of as free actually have legal or technical restrictions on their use, holding back people from all walks of life…

Blogbridge.

Blogbridge. Open Source blog and feeds organizer, designed for compulsive info junkies. Probably overkill if you only follow two sites a week. But still definitely worth a look, if only for the funky, non Open Source interface.  BlogBridge is a blog, feed and RSS aggregator for “info-junkies.” While there are other aggregators out there, BlogBridge is designed for people who are required to follow lots of feeds, not 10 or 20, but 200 or 400. You can’t read that much,…

CD & DVD data cop.

ICE ECC. Worried about losing your precious CD or DVD data as the discs degrade over time? Then you might like to try this bit of freeware and see if it provides some valuable protection. Seems like a neat idea.   Did you know that a typical CD-R/DVD-R disk can hold its data intact for only a few years? Search Fox.

SearchFox. A free beta bookmark/favourites management toolbar. With sharing and swish search and there’s also an RSS feed in there somewhere, although I don’t think it’s integrated. I’m a Powermarks fan, so not sure if this adds any value to my life (apart from the free bit of course).  Our BETA product lets you tag web favorites with your own words so you can get back to them. It also lets you find what people you trust find useful, valuable, and…

Inkscape. A free Open Source graphics program a la CorelDraw or Freehand. Looks good. Supports  EPS, JPEG, PNG, and TIFF. Oooh, acronym city!  Inkscape is an open source drawing application similar to Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, Freehand, or Xara X. What sets Inkscape apart is its use of Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), an open XML-based [W3C] standard, as the native format…While Inkscape does not have all the features of the market leading proprietary software, the latest versions provide for a…
