Firetune.

Firetune. Billed as the world’s first ‘automated optimizer for Firefox’. Well I’ve tried it and it didn’t seem to break anything. Can’t say it’s had a massive impact on the Ferret browsing experience though. But hey, it’s free and YMMV anyway. Anyone with more detailed info shout it out in the comments.

Tense Log.

Tense Log. I don’t know why, just because it looks cool. And nicely designed. Anyway it’s free blog software, so check it rasta!  Tense Log is a simple but powerful web log and content management system. It’s highly customizable and easy to use. MyWebEx fires up.

MyWebExPC has been upgraded. Now works on Firefox browsers and offers automatic screen resizing. If you haven’t taken a look at this puppy yet, you should. Lets you access your PC when you’re travelling. It’s free and works quite well, although there’s the usual performance hit you get with this kind of tech.

User power.

The web is a-buzz with hot technology right now, with mother Google seemingly leading the charge to re-invent, re-engineer and imagineer all kinds of apps. But what happens when the power shifts to the user, through the use of creative browser add-ons which let you change pages you’re viewing? The answer is, potentially, a lot! Well a sneak peak of a few ‘user annotation’ or ‘user scripting’ tools may well help us to understand where this is heading. Just imagine being…

Share and peer.

Folder Share. Your files anywhere. But not on top of that stupid rock, I bet. Anyhoo, there’s a free basic plan and a subscription one with more features. Looks neato. [Thanks to Rob for the pointer.]  FolderShare allows you to create a private peer-to-peer network that will help you to synchronize files across multiple devices and access or share files with colleagues and friends. You no longer need to send large files via email, burn them to CDs/DVDs and mail…

Kowabunga!

Kapanga. A voice over IP program with a couple of interesting features. To whit – video/audio recording and fax send/receive. The authors appear to be a little unsure whether it’s freeware or shareware, what the price is, or when the full product is going to be released due to some ‘licensing issues. Still, worth watching methinks.  In addition to placing calls or establishing videoconferencing, Kapanga enables you to send and receive faxes. When in auto-answer mode, Kapanga can also receive faxes…

Sugar suite.

SugarCRM. Wow an Open Source CRM package that looks as though it’ll compete head on with Siebel et al? Plus hosted options too? Hmm…  Sugar Open Source is an enterprise class CRM application for managing mission-critical interactions related to sales, marketing, services and support. Sugar Open Source is the perfect solution for companies who desire an effective core CRM solution that offers no professional support, or would like to evaluate Sugar Suite before acquiring Sugar Professional.

Google search history RSS.

The Google Search History RSS feed creator. Well that didn’t take long, did it? And rather slick indeed.  This tool goes through your current Google Search History, grabs all of your recent searches and turns it into an RSS feed. Would work best set up as a nightly/hourly cron job, redirecting to a file. This tool is written in Perl and uses a few, slick, modules: WWW::Mechanize, XML::LibXML, and XML::RSS.

Cleaning windows.

RegScrubXP. Pretty cool freeware for cleaning up the Windows registry. I say cool because when I tried it, it cleaned out over 450 errant entries without trashing my machine. That’s cool in my book.  Safely cleans junk out of the Windows XP/2000 System Registry, making it smaller and faster to access. · All changes made to the Registry are fully restorable to it’s original condition. · You can make an exclusion list of Registry entries that RegScrubXP will not display…

Two to tango?

Tango Drop Box. FTP client in a box. Well OK, an icon on your desktop onto which you drop the files you want to send to pre-configured FTP addresses. You get the picture. Or icon. Quite a neat idea and it’s free. Needs .NET though.  Introducing the new Tango DropBox. The Tango DropBox allows you to upload files and folders without launching your FTP application. Simply drag and drop files on to the Tango DropBoxes you create on the desktop….

Portable Firefox.

Portable Firefox. A project to develop a USB friendly web browser. Great idea. But you know what I wish? I wish that the esteemed Firefox development community would develop an upgrade path that doesn’t require you to uninstall the old version first. That’s what I wish. It’s not rocket science folks.  Portable Firefox is a fully functional package of Firefox optimized for use on a USB key drive. It has some specially-selected optimizations to make it perform faster and extend…
