Kowabunga!

Kapanga. A voice over IP program with a couple of interesting features. To whit – video/audio recording and fax send/receive. The authors appear to be a little unsure whether it’s freeware or shareware, what the price is, or when the full product is going to be released due to some ‘licensing issues. Still, worth watching methinks.  In addition to placing calls or establishing videoconferencing, Kapanga enables you to send and receive faxes. When in auto-answer mode, Kapanga can also receive faxes…

Google search history RSS.

The Google Search History RSS feed creator. Well that didn’t take long, did it? And rather slick indeed.  This tool goes through your current Google Search History, grabs all of your recent searches and turns it into an RSS feed. Would work best set up as a nightly/hourly cron job, redirecting to a file. This tool is written in Perl and uses a few, slick, modules: WWW::Mechanize, XML::LibXML, and XML::RSS.

Cleaning windows.

RegScrubXP. Pretty cool freeware for cleaning up the Windows registry. I say cool because when I tried it, it cleaned out over 450 errant entries without trashing my machine. That’s cool in my book.  Safely cleans junk out of the Windows XP/2000 System Registry, making it smaller and faster to access. · All changes made to the Registry are fully restorable to it’s original condition. · You can make an exclusion list of Registry entries that RegScrubXP will not display…

Portable Firefox. A project to develop a USB friendly web browser. Great idea. But you know what I wish? I wish that the esteemed Firefox development community would develop an upgrade path that doesn’t require you to uninstall the old version first. That’s what I wish. It’s not rocket science folks.  Portable Firefox is a fully functional package of Firefox optimized for use on a USB key drive. Mapit!

Mapit! A Firefox extension. Highlight a phone number on a web page and get a map and driving instructions of how to get there instantly using Google maps. Kind of useful. If you live in the US. And are near a PC. Personally I’d prefer if it ran mobile on Minimo. [Thanks Erick]

Root it out.

RootkitRevealer. Root Kit = nasty kind of  malware. RootkitRevealer = detector. Definitely worth remembering.  The term rootkit is used to describe the mechanisms and techniques whereby malware, including viruses, spyware, and trojans, attempt to hide their presence from spyware blockers, antivirus, and system management utilities…RootkitRevealer is an advanced root kit detection utility.
