Slicethepie – or how to bind the fan and artist ever closer together and make money

Slicethepie. I’ve been banging on about Sellaband for a while now, but I’ve got to say that this effort knocks it out of the park. Again it’s a new style artist label community play, but with some lovely features and significant differences to the Sellaband model. For a start, this bunch don’t take away the artists publishing or copyright (Sellaband take away the publishing rights on every track they help produce). It’s a smallish point, but important. Secondly, the interaction and…

Vzaar – free video adverts for your eBay listings

Vzaar is a free video player application which you can use to embed videos in your eBay auction listings. It’s an obvious application when you think about it, so should come as no surprise. They’ll need to keep on top of the scalability issues with hosting large numbers of videos, but it’s a decent idea all right. In fact it really sings with some items, like this Eric Clapton guitar. Weird name though, eh (video bazaar?)   Tags: vzaar, video, online+application, ebay

Taaz – online makeover tools get Web 2.0…er…makeover

Taaz. A new women’s makeover application which lets you upload a photo and tweak hairstyles, makeup and stuff. It’s not a new idea, but this one comes with all the shiny Web 2.0 stuff, including mandatory shiny black interface, a voting gallery with user comments and lots of beauty hints and tips. The controls are very easy to use, and surprisingly flexible, unlike some which only allow a limited range of changes. You really can fiddle with your look and…

Checkser – the to-do list wiki that lets you find and build online checklists

Checkser is an intriguing new take on the whole online to-do list concept. It’s basically a super fast, no registration application that lets you create checklists and to-do lists. It’s still too early to say how useful this will be, but judging from a few of the offerings up there, it could turn out to be extremely cool for some types of needs. The fact that it’s based around a wiki model means that anyone can edit or improve checklists,…

Sprout – roll your own interactive web widgets quick and easy like

Sprout. Very cool interactive widget maker goes way beyond most alternatives like Yourminis or MuseStorm. In fact it’s probably safer to say that these are mini-websites that you can design, build and embed on your site in minutes. There’s a huge selection of content and design components you can use, and although it’s early days, it’s clear that the developers have plans for lots more template and content material as time goes on. The editor/builder is a straightforward WYSIWYG layout tool with full…

ReQall – cool memory tool links phone and web in one seamless reminder system

ReQall. Use your phone, web panel or instant messenger to keep track of things you need to remember. Shopping lists, to-dos, capturing ideas, whatever you need to store and recall. Just ask the system to remember, and set it up to remind you or forward the data via email, SMS text message or RSS and iCalendar. Just start your message with the right keyword (e.g. ‘buy’ to have the item automatically added to the shopping list) and tell it what…

Google Ad Manager – 600 pound gorilla stretches, yawns, advertising forest quakes in terror

Google Ad Manager. Hot on the heels of the Doubleclick acquisition announcement, we get news that Google is testing their new display advertising engine for delivering direct client ads on your website. That’s incredible news and it’s astounding that they’ve moved so fast to re-package the Doubleclick tech. If Google can do for display ads what they did for text ads with Adsense/Adwords, then it could revolutionise the World Wide Web. Really! Why? It integrates completely with Adsense. If you don’t have any banner ads…

Twing – superb forum search tool looks great and works great too

Twing is a new forum and community search engine which comes in a nice Web 2.0 wrapping and with some interesting features which make it stand out from the rest. There’s a few of these things out there that we’ve reported on before, like Omgili and Boardtracker, but this one now becomes the engine to beat for a number of reasons. For starters the user interface is great. The front page is clean and features just enough info to keep you interested…

Fundability – helping startups find investors and investors find startups

Fundability. New marketplace aims to help investors and startups find each other for mutually beneficial relationships based around cash. And options. Super slick interface, very cool feature set and a solid business model (startups pay $49.99 a month for their listings) mean that this one should run and run (if a nasty little recession doesn’t get in the way that is). Exactly the type of online community service that adds credibility to the whole sector.  We created Fundability as a marketplace where entrepreneurs…

Aviary – beautifully ambitious online creative suite promises much…

Aviary is a beautifully designed and very ambitious online suite of creative applications covering everything from image editing to desktop publishing. It comes from the Worth1000 people (who do those fabulous Photoshop contests) so the pedigree is very cool. I say ambitious because the suite includes apps like video editors, wordprocessing and even a font editor, so it’s likely that this is going to take time to build out. The first application is Phoenix, the image editor, which although still a…

eBuzzing – new pay to blog service. like. recommend. earn? Hmm…

eBuzzing. Hmm…well it’s a new version of an old concept. Advertisers pay bloggers to recommend products. PayPerPost redux? Just for the record I think this stuff is not a valuable addition to the blogging community. Yes bloggers take advertising, yes we respond to valuable PR, yes we can be commercial/pro operations and don’t necessarily have to be totally amateur status to retain credibility (although I do think that those blogs which have avoided any adverts or commercial sponsorship like Bifurcated Rivets, Presurfer, RobotWisdom2 and…

Wakerupper – cool online telephone reminder tool

Wakerupper. Today’s the day for daft names, but the application certainly looks interesting enough. Register and sign in and you can set up alarm calls to be sent to your phone via SMS whenever you want. It’s beta, US only from the looks of it and features other cool functionality like recurring calls and voice reminders as well as text. Do you think this has more use than a simple alarm function on your mobile phone? Answers on a ringtone…

PlotBot – cool free online collaborative screenwriting application

PlotBot. Fancy yourself as a bit of a screenwriter, do you? Have some friends who think they also could do better than the professionals? Well here’s your chance. This interesting little application uses a combination of wiki style editing, an Ajaxified interface and clever code to provide a cool screenwriting environment for individuals or teams to create amazing works of art. Or Rocky XX, whichever comes first. The interface is very simple to use, and the application sticks to all the formatting conventions, so you can be…

Video Job Shop – video resumes and job offers wander online, hmm…

VideoJobShop. Video resumes and job offers online. Hmm…not sure what to say about this. Is video the best way to advertise for jobs or try and get one? Not sure. Most of the job offer footage is basic stock stuff from company promos, and the video resumes seem to be rather…um…awkward. For a fun few minutes though, check out the spokesperson resume videos from the Arts and Media section. This video in particular deserves to get some star treatment on YouTube. Hoot! [Thanks Alan]….

PrefPass – universal login system for website owners

PrefPass is a new service which lets website owners embed a universal login widget on their site. This gives your visitors the chance to log in using their preferred ID service (like Yahoo!, OpenID or Facebook). It’s a nice idea, but I have to say that the set up is overly long and complex. They’d do themselves a big favour by trying to simplify matters a lot. Nevertheless it’s one to watch!  PrefPass is the solution to Web 2.0 login proliferation….
