Posterous – make sure you take another look at this amazing tool…

Just a quick note to y’all to say take another look at Posterous. We covered it in January when it launched, and my how it’s grown. Just send an email to [email protected] and bingo, you’ve got an instant multimedia distribution system which is incredibly, amazingly powerful. Video, music, photos, blog posts, you name it, and with auto distribution to Twitter, Facebook et al. Superb! [And don’t get us started on its ability to automatically transcribe URLs into YouTube videos etc. Sheesh!] Tags: posterous,…

Bdule – cool Windows based Twitter and Facebook freeware looks v. healthy…

Bdule is a new Windows freeware program for Twitter and Facebook users. The Windows only software is basically a desktop client, and it looks pretty nice. You get to set up multiple accounts of Twitter in different template layouts, and the ability to search Twitter directly from the page is great.   Unfortunately it looks like it’s been released just a tad too early, which is a shame. First, there’s no way to add more account instances once you’ve set things up…

Google Street View Trike – the awesomest high tech low tech solution ever

This Google Street View Trike is designed so the company can grab images from off-road footpaths and other inaccessible terrain in Europe for the Google maps application. First deployment will be Italy and then the UK. It is just wonderful what those guys come up with, although we’re feeling just a tad sorry for the poor geek dude who has to pedal the rig around the hedgerows. We’re assuming there’s electric pedal assist buried in there somewhere?  The so-called Google Trike, which…

Wiki Alarm – email alerts when your Wikipedia page is edited

Wiki Alarm sends you an email alert if/when your selected Wikipedia pages are edited. You can track unlimted pages, monitor keywords like product and company names and send notifications to as many people as you want. Lovely idea, simple but effective.  Wikipedia pages are monitored every hour and email updates will be sent as soon as we detect a change. The email contains full information on the changes as well as the IP address of the person making the changes –…

Miro Adopt – adopt a line of code and help fund open source

Miro Adopt is a brilliant scheme to help fund one of the neatest open source projects around. Miro is an excellent free HD video player and TiVo type program grabber which will automatically download Internet video programming of your choice and store it on your hard disk for later viewing. Great for grabbing a whole series or must-have items like GeekBrief TV and TED Talks. It’s also BitTorrent friendly via LegalTorrent which makes it even more useful. Now the devs have…

Hypetape – uber cool playlist creator mashes muxtape and hypemachine

Ahh…the glory and the power of our Internets. They tried to kill Muxtape and spawned something infinitely more pleasurable to the ear. Hypetape brings together the simple playlist creating elegance of Muxtape (which is slowly resurrecting itself by the way) with the musical blogselence of Hypemachine. Result, awesome playlists for you to enjoy on demand. Sign up, choose your favourite artists, and create and online playlist of their tracks. It’s simple, elegant and lovely.  Hypetape is the illegitimate lovechild of…

SickCity – realtime disease tracking for your city

Just in time for the mother and father of all panics, we present SickCity, a neat disease tracker which makes use of Twitter to track epidemics across the globe. The code is open source, the graphs look pretty if a little scary, and it’s part of the uber cool DIY City program which promises to democratise the running of our cities. Yay!  SickCity watches Twitter (and soon Facebook) for any mentions of disease in a city. It then collects this information and…

XMind 3.0 – cool open source mind mapping for all

XMind 3.0 is a hybrid online/offline mind-mapping tool which offers free and Pro services alongside a full open source code option. The tool works on Mac, PC and Linux and comes with all the usual productivity features you’d expect to find. We’ve recommended Mindmeister in the past, but I’ve got to say that I now find it a little too cumbersome to use, whereas XMind is simple enough to use in a matter of seconds.   There are a couple of…

The Pirate Google – search Google for Torrent Files

The Pirate Google lets you search for BitTorrent files using the Google search engine. Like The Pirate Bay it offers up legal (i.e. Linux distributions and other stuff) as well as illegal stuff. Probably someone from the entertainment industry should take Google to court?   Please Note: This site is not affiliated with Google, it simply makes use of Google Custom Search to restrict your searches to Torrent files. You can do this with any regular Google search by appending your query with…

We Are Hunted – featuring the most popular online songs of the moment

We Are Hunted is a new online service which trawls the social networks, forums, P2P networks and blogs to find cool new music for you to stream and enjoy. The site compiles a simple chart listing with images and an embedded player to let you listen to the stuff immediately. The rest of the content is fairly conventional, commenting, related artists, artist blurbs etc. Nice implementation, good search and a clean feature set make this something to watch for the future. I…

Pirate Bay Battle One Over – limited edition trial version T

Fresh from their massive victory in a Swedish court where the lads from Pirate Bay trounced the establishment suits over BitTorrent file sharing, they’ve announced a Pirate Bay Battle One Over special edition T-shirt to celebrate. “The only winning move is not to play.” Indeed. €25.00.  The Pirate Bay Battle One Over The verdict is in! Limited Edition Trial Special! The first round in the war called “The trial against The Pirate Bay” is over. But as we all know,…

Nanocrowd – crowdsourced movie recomendations

Nanocrowd is a new crowd powered movie finding service which looks very cool indeed. Enter in your favourite film, and the service will give you a choice of similar titles to watch. The key feature of the service lies in the way they link the movies together, they basically trawl the web for user comments, abstract the key words and use them to build a ratings system to lump titles together in similar groups. What makes this a service to watch,…

Yoono – socialize your browser

Yoono is a free Firefox add-on which lets you collect all your instant messaging and social network services to the browser in one handy window. You can also add Twitter, Facebook and mySpace as well, which really does mean you’ll stay in touch. You won’t get a stroke of work done, probably get fired and have to sell the kids, but at least you’ll stay in touch with your mates eh? Check it out (at your peril). Oh…and expect advertising….

Grooveshark – the incredible morphing music service

What a difference a couple of years make. When we first reported on it back in 2007, Grooveshark was a hybrid P2P and pay per download music service. Now they’ve added a slick looking streaming service which makes use of all that nice music in a Pandora type model. It’s a nice new feature, although we still love the majestic Spotify, and this is a very crowded space right now. Nevertheless they’ve done it well, and deserve top marks for proving that…

Me-trics is a new online service which gives you the tools you need to gather and analyse your own personal set of data. Why? Or any number of personal and useful stats. Sign up is free, and you can either choose from the default stat options of health,…
