India Loves Paper Waste – waste paper from the UK is a boon to India

Where does paper go when you recycle it? Well, if you’re in the UK, the answer is India and this, as it turns out, is a really good thing. After China added more restrictions to what they would take, India stepped up and began accepting UK paper recyclables and it is proving to be a boon for their own paper needs.

Biosolids – this resource is great if you can get over the gross factor

We don’t blink an eye when farmers use manure to fertilize fields but if someone said they were using human waste products for the same purpose, that would probably make most people say, “Eww.” Which is a real shame because biosolids have a lot of potential, if we can just get over the gross out factor.

Coal Mining Hurts Everything – it’s not just the air that suffers

Most people are aware that burning coal for energy isn’t a great look and are actively against it because, well, everyone likes breathing clean air. Clean air a major reason to move away from coal but if you weren’t convinced, turns out coal is pretty terrible across the board.

Saving Wetlands – marsh mud can help fight climate change

Wetlands have been under threat since forever. Seriously, I remember cleaning them up in elementary school and I am. . . far away from that time in my life. How far? Not important, but it’s been awhile. Aside from the natural beauty and amazing habitats they provide, we can add one more reason to keep them going: they’re important to the fight against climate change.

More Wind-farms for the UK – country strikes deal for massive uptick in renewable energy

In order to combat climate change we need to move to more renewable ways to generate it. Lucky for us, we don’t need to figure out what these are because some of the answers are already out there. One of them is offshore wind power and the UK has just committed to using more of it. Yay!

The State of Fish – warming oceans are bad news for the things that live there

We talk about climate change in terms of what it’s going to do a lot. It’s going to cause super-storms, it’s going to cause dramatic weather patterns, etc but the fact of the matter is, it’s already causing issues now. Researchers have discovered that the warming oceans have already caused a drop in fish which is bad news.

NYC Canners – these people are responsible for such high recycling numbers in the city

When we think of people who collect cans, well we probably don’t think much of them. Most people are aware that the cans can be exchanged for money but many people don’t bother. Still, the people who collect up these cans are doing a good bit to help the amount of recyclables that actually get turned in proving that a little bit of incentive goes a long way.

Air Travel Emissions – this company has the least but that’s not the whole story

How many emissions does flying cause? We think about our cars all the time but what about when we hop on a plane? What airline is the best for that? Turns out it’s some outfit called EasyJet who’s only emitting 75g of CO2 per passenger which is pretty good but also misleading.

CO2 Gas into Coal – new procedure turns gas back into solid state

What to do with the greenhouse gases that we manage to capture has been a question that has various answers, none that are really perfect. New research has a possible solution. Why not just turn it back to a solid before we store it away? In a new process, scientist turn CO2 from gas back into coal.

Refurbished IKEA – popular brand makes moves to keep their product out of landfills

IKEA isn’t really known for having long lasting furniture. That’s sort of its thing, it’s the furniture you get for your first apartment and don’t care if it all gets smashed up with all the freedom you have. But honestly, IKEA has some nice stuff and to help the environment, they’re testing out selling some refurbished products, plugging straight into the reuse option of Eco-friendliness.
