Plastic Bag Ban Works – two large chains in Australia show how promising a bag ban can be

Two large grocery chains in Australia stopped supplying single use plastic bags in hopes that it would help reduce some of the plastic waste and it worked. There was an 80% drop in plastic bag consumption across the nation. It is hoped that this action will encourage other retailers to stop supplying them as well.

Acorn Project – if you can’t stop emissions, at least keep them out of the atmosphere

The biggest key to stopping climate change is limiting the amount of harmful gases that enter the atmosphere. This, however, will take time as changes are made to what energies we use, how we produce things, etc. In the meantime, the Acorn Project wants to keep the gases from getting into the air and, good news, it’s looking to start testing it’s technology by the mid-2020s.

When we think of climate change most of probably think of polar bears and industrial smoke stacks but it turns out those images don’t really connect well and turn into action. Climate Visuals is a library of images that capture climate change in a way that we can understand and prompt people to engage.

Peat bogs Closing in Ireland – first step to counteracting harmful greenhouse gasses

Peat bogs are contributing to climate change. This fuel source that has been important to Ireland for nearly a century is harmful to the planet, more so than even coal. The good news is that the company that harvests these bogs announced plans to shut them down, the bad news is that it might not be enough to curtail the damage.
