Dryve – lovely lightweight rain cover for bicycles makes your ride weather proof [Updated]

The one thing we don’t enjoy on a bicycle is bad weather. Cold wind, rain, snow, all that nasty stuff that car drivers can avoid. Sure you can wrap up well, and make sure you’re protected, but then you risk getting all hot and sticky, which is again not great. But now an enterprising team from Switzerland has come up with something very clever indeed.

Nowadays it’s almost impossible to live without your gadgets. All these smartphones,  tablets, portable media players and the rest are devices that we can’t afford to part ways with even for a moment. However if you’re the adventurous type who likes going out in the wilderness for some camping fun, then you are probably also familiar with the horrors of range anxiety, as your device battery starts to empy on the journey.

Peel Electric Micro Car – smallest electric car in the world?

We’re thinking that this is probably the smallest proper electric car in the world (or the whole universe, what do we know?), and if it isn’t we would definitely like to meet the elves who’ve built one smaller. Petrol heads will, of course, recognize the distinctive Peel micro car shape, but instead of a conventional petrol engine, this puppy comes with a full electric drivetrain. Wow-eee.

Threadsmiths Cavalier – the first water and dirt repelling T-shirt in the world

Yay, it looks like we’re heading for a world where we never have to wash our clothes again. No wait… OK, so we’ll probably have to do a bit of washing for certain particular garments, but wouldn’t it be great if we never needed to worry about most of our wardrobe cleaning? Think of the money saved, not to mention the planet.

TableTop Aquaponics – grow your own food the healthy sustainable way

In case you hadn’t heard, food is getting more expensive, mostly due to rising harvesting, shipping, and processing costs. One answer to the problem has been to start looking at alternative, more local and efficient ways to produce food for communities wherever they are, and Aquaponics looks like a solid solution. The system marries aquaculture (aka fish farming) with hydroponics, to deliver fresh home grown vegetables along with fish supplies when needed.

Southwest Airlines upcycles its used leather seats

Upcycling – turning used products that would have ended up in the landfill into new products – is becoming more mainstream. Now it’s Southwest Airlines that’s jumped onboard. It’s new LUV Seat: Repurpose with Purpose sustainability program will turn 43 acres of used leather seat coverings into useful new products.
