The Switchboard.

Cringely mentions The Switchboard this week, and it’s interesting indeed. A free web based Java voice chat service. Register once and it’s accessible from anywhere in the world as long as you’ve got yer headphones and mic. No software download, no hassle. P2P technology apparently and includes nifty stuff like voice mail and email notifications.  Our plan is to create the easiest to use, free, browser to browser internet phone. How is the switchboard different from other internet phones? * it…

Vista View.

The Kowa Vista View. Ferget about those clunky telescopes on the pier, this 10.4” LCD beauty is what ya really need. Until some yob yanks it off the pedestal and makes off into the night of course. And for a mere $22,240.00 too. Bargin. [Thanks Kevin].  Ideal for tourist sights. Differing from the conventional coin-operated observation binoculars which allow only one person at a time to look through the binoculars, the Vista View enables a couple or a family to…

Radianse.

Radianse Alerts. RFID tags to stop you losing patients? Hot Link Pro.

Hot Link Pro. You’ve got to dig tech that lets you control your infrared A/V toys even when they’re behind closed doors, haven’t you? Apparently all done with smoke and mirrors. Nah, just kidding. $149.99.  If your A/V equipment is housed behind an opaque cabinet door or in a closet, infrared remote control signals will not be able to reach it…Luckily, the Hot Link Pro solves this problem by routing your remote control’s IR signals into the closed cabinet or…

Lightspace.

Lightspace. Cool RGB LED dance floor tech, kind of a dance mat on steroids. Watch the videos to get a real idea of the tech, like playing pong with your feet, or the stomping PacMan type game. Runs on Java apparently. [Thanks Dave]

Skinny audio rockz.

Apparently this new AACPlus audio format (aka High Efficiency AAC) sounds really really good at very low streaming bitrates (we’re talking CD quality at 48kbps, i.e. dialup Internet speeds). Non-believer? Then do what the Ferret did and download the latest Winamp version with AAC Plus support and listen to Tuner2. They’re right, it’s really very nice. Hmm..downloading this Winamp plug-in for your existing installation might do the trick too. Neat!

Dermabond.

Dermabond. Purple liquid stitches, like a Pritt Stick for skin? Two coats and the wound is stuck together, no nasty needles. Yay! Watch the demo!  After your wound has been cleaned, your doctor will apply DERMABOND adhesive in thin layers (a minimum of three) with a light brushing stroke, while holding the edges of the wound together. As DERMABOND adhesive is applied, it forms a strong, flexible bond in just 45-60 seconds, and reaches full strength in approximately 2½ minutes….

Back to the future.

Firestreamer-DV. $46.00. Needs an in/out Firewire connection which of course we in Europe are rather short of on our camcorders. Sheesh!  The Firestreamer software makes your DV recorder appear as a regular tape drive to other applications running on your computer, so that you can use the powerful Windows Backup Utility (NTBackup) to reliably back up and restore your files and folders to and from videotape. You can store up to 15 Gigabytes of data to a Mini-DV cassette, or…

Pulse power.

The VNS Therapy System. For long term treatment of chronic epileptic seizures. [Via the rather scary Medgadget].  VNS Therapy delivers stimulation via a device implanted just under the skin in the left chest area. The pacemaker-like device sends mild, intermittent electrical impulses through a lead to the left vagus nerve, which then sends signals to the brain. Each device is programmed for the individual patient, and the patient or a caregiver has the ability to initiate or abort stimulation with…
