Roost Smart Battery – transform your old smoke detector with Wi-Fi and smartphone tech

Back when I lived in an apartment, I was once awoken at 4 AM by the smell of smoke. Two minutes later, the source of the smell was pouring through my vents and filling the room. I packed up two kids and two cats in record time while calling the fire department. You know how many of my smoke detectors went off? Zero. The batteries were all dead. The Roost Smart Battery is a device that aims to stop this…

Quantum Of The Seas – we take a trip on the mind blowing new $1 billion mega ship, probably the best cruise liner ever built [Review]

Last week we were given an unprecedented opportunity to travel out with the incredible new Quantum Of The Seas cruise liner as part of its pre-inaugural shake-down cruise from Southampton port. For the uninitiated, the Quantum is the most technology packed cruise ship ever to sail the seven seas – billed as the world’s first ‘Smart Ship‘ – and comes with a suitably impressive price tag of near on a billion dollars. Give or take.

Etree – the tree that gives Wi-Fi instead of oxygen

There’s a meme going around that says something to the effect of, “If trees gave off Wi-Fi people would be more interested in saving them” which is crazy because we still need them for oxygen, another important life sustaining substance. With the Etree, you could actually get Wi-Fi as well as a host of other benefits, but not oxygen.

BOTTA Uno 24 Neo – keeping track of the day, one slow, lazy hour at a time

We’re all too hung up on time. It’s a fact. We’ve tied ourselves up into so many tiny knots over time-keeping that we’re constantly struggling to meet all these mythical deadlines, and it’s doing our heads in. Who cares if we’re 4 minutes late here, or 7 minutes early there? Does it really matter? I’m pretty sure it doesn’t, which is why I’m loving this new innovative way of looking at time.

GSatMicro – the smallest Iridium tracker in the world will monitor you anywhere on the planet

There are tracking systems and then there are tracking systems. Almost all GPS tracking systems rely on either storing their data on an on-board memory card or use GSM cell phone networks to transmit their location to a home base. Which is fine unless you happen to be out at sea, or in the middle of a jungle where there are no phone towers or signal. Which is where this tiny new product can really deliver.

Tzukuri – the first sunglasses which you can’t lose

Almost everyone has had that moment when they’ve managed to leave behind a perfect pair of sunglasses. On a chair, table, bus, taxi, club or grassy knoll. Sunglasses never ever seem to break, they just disappear. As if their time with you is over and they’re on to brighter horizons. We think it’s some kind of a conspiracy with odd socks, but that’s probably a story best left to another time. It’s more likely you just forgot them in a…

Strati – world’s first 3D printed car gets its first drive out

A tiny bit of history was probably made a few weeks ago when the world’s first 3D printed car was driven out in public for the first time. Of course when we say 3D printed, we mean the bodywork and interior etc, not the motor, suspension or other metallic parts. That would be rather difficult right now. But maybe not in a few years or so?
