Qwerkywriter USB Typewriter – bring a touch of vintage to your modern machine

Something like a year ago there was this too cool to be true typewriter like attachment for iPads. It was actually too cool to be true in that it was a concept, but since so many people (yours truly included) loved the idea Qwerkytoys has created the Qwerkywriter USB Typewriter for all of your retro vintage needs.

Tera – The Tech Mat That Turns Yoga Into Twister

Yoga is one of the most relaxing physical activities in existence. They have a pose that is literally just lying down. You can’t get much more relaxed than that. But it can be a very active practice too, which Lunar Europe has keyed into with their concept Tera, the exercise mat that is a rug by day and a tech fueled health tool whenever you’re ready to get your workout on.

Skype Translate – new technology from Microsoft looks like the translation breakthrough we’ve been waiting for

We reckon that deep down everyone would like to be a fluent linguist in multiple languages. It’s just so cool to be able to walk into a room and start chatting away in a different language to a friend or family member. As someone who can barely speak one language, that makes me severely envious.

The Britt Pedal – convert any bike into an electric bike instantly by changing the pedals

If you’ve ever struggled up a hill on your bicycle and wished there was a way to make the task easier, you might be interested in this interesting product which is apparently under development. We say apparently, because although it’s won a few awards, there’s been no real sighting of a real working prototype, and so we have to file it under ‘possibly too good to be true.‘

Intel Future Technology Show – we get to see what the engineers are up to deep in their labs

It’s not often they let the Intel engineers out into the sunlight, most of the time they’re kept locked in dark dungeons slaving away on stuff which we may see in a few years time. But this week the unthinkable happened, and the might chip maker decided to show off some of the cool stuff they’re working on, and we were invited along to have a play and video. It was rather neat.

Cota – wireless charging through walls with a 40 foot range means you may never need another charger cable again

The goal of delivering real remote wireless charging to the world’s gadgets seems to be cracked with the demonstration this month of a new system which can charge a smartphone in a user’s pocket from 40 feet away, through two walls and closed doors.

Imagine your luggage is just code – get ready for a future where we don’t own things, but instead make and destroy on demand

Finnish designer and creative director of 3D systems, Janne Kyttanen, has recently posted a video outlining a possible future where 3D printing is embedded in our lives in a completely new way. He asks us to imagine a world where everything we own – in this case specifically our vacation luggage – is stored as nothing but computer code. Instead of carrying our belongings with us on holiday, the idea is we print it all out at our destination on…

Beaming solar power to Earth could become a reality someday

It sounds like something from a Robert Heinlein book but it may well be a glimpse of our renewable energy future. The U.S. Navy says it has an idea that could collect solar energy in space and turn it into solar energy they beam down to Earth. U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) spacecraft engineer Paul Jaffe has created two prototypes of space solar modules. The “sandwich” design has one side receiving solar energy with a photovoltaic panel; electronics in the…

Quadcopter Tennis Anyone? Is this a pointer to a possible future of ball sports?

We stumbled across this little beauty the other day and our nostrils twitched immediately. Was that really a quadcopter which had been programmed to work out how to hit a ball back to a human target? Well it sure looks like it. In fact this is part of a research program from the Swiss Institute of Technology in Zurich, which is looking into what they call ‘trajectory generation’. What we see is a future where competitive sports get **really** interesting.
