2014 BMW 435i M Sport Convertible – our road test: 6 countries, 3000 kms, 3.5 days [Review]

So what would you do if BMW called up and offered to lend you a £45,000 sports car for a few days to drive where you wanted in Europe as a test? Yep, that’s what we figured, so we said no and went back to our knitting. Yeah right. Long and short, five days later we found ourselves on a flight to Malaga airport in Southern Spain, and six days later they handed over a key fob to a gleaming…

Dimika 1080 HD Action Cam – ultra versatile HD cam delivers great video as an action cam, security cam, webcam, car DVR and more [Review]

There are plenty of action cams around, because it seems that people love taking video of their adventures. Which is great if you’re in sunny California, but not so useful if you’re stuck somewhere like rainy Leeds. But now there’s a way to use your action cam in the summer, and convert it into something else, including a car DVR, during the rest of the time.

Blue Spark Digital Microphone – the best digital microphone for iPad and USB yet? [Review]

Blue is an established name in the recording device market, having produced a range of top class microphones and accessories for both studio and desktop computer use. The prosumer oriented mics in particular are designed to offer superb recording functionality for iDevices and computers at the right sort of price, so we thought we’d test one out to see what all the fuss is about.

The Battery Price Scam – Hint: We’re Probably Being Ripped Off! [In-Depth Test]

We’ve just finished conducting some tests on a range of different AAA alkaline battery brands to find out which are worth the price and which aren’t. With some very surprising results! Everyone buys household batteries, right? But most times we just buy what the marketing tells us to buy, without having a clue which batteries are actually the best value for money.

Volkswagen e-up! – first look at the new electric car which proves that small can indeed be beautiful…and silent [Review]

There’s no question that the electric car momentum has now well and truly started gathering pace, with the latest entrant to the market coming from the German giant with two letters as a logo. The Volkswagen e-up! (don’t forget the exclamation mark, Mark!) is nowhere near as revolutionary as the one we were expecting, but it’s still pretty cool, and actually breaks new ground in at least one specific piece of tech.

Ford Focus EV – stylish all electric joins the fray [Review]

Slowly but surely all the major manufacturers are rolling out their EV (electric vehicle) models, spurred by the requirement to deliver evidence of forward thinking and the need to meet emission targets set up by various governments. The latest is the mighty Ford, with the launch of the Ford Focus EV, which we recently spent some time with as part of a longer term evaluation.

Nissan Qashqai 2014 Diesel – 74 mpg, auto parking and more tech than a space shuttle [Review]

You remember the old days, when getting into a car meant sucking up fuel like a jumbo jet, and the coolest bit of tech on tap would be the electric windows? Yeah, well they’re long gone. Nowadays the whole point of designing a new car seems to be to demonstrate how much technology you can cram into a small tin box without making the sides bulge too much.

2013/14 Nissan Leaf – living with the world’s best selling electric car [Review]

The funny thing about electric cars is you wait around for one for years and years, and then all of a sudden a bunch turn up at once. It’s weird. What’s even more strange is the fact that one of the world’s most popular electric cars, the Nissan Leaf, can look so ordinary on the outside, and yet actually turn out to be such fun to drive.

Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet 2 – sleek 10 inch Windows 8 tablet does teh business [Review]

There are a lot of Android tablet computers on the market, not to mention iOS models, but so far the number of Windows powered products can almost be counted on the fingers of one hand. Which is strange when you remember that most enterprise sized organizations are still firmly wedded to the Windows platform.

BMW i3 Electric Car – our first test drive of this cool all electric urban rocket [Video]

The new BMW i3 all electric car has been causing a bit of a stir recently, which is not surprising since it’s the first totally electric car to emerge from the German giant. The big surprise is that rather than produce a predictable luxury electric vehicle which you’d expect from the marque, the designers have gone for an eminently practical city runabout, but with an edge.

THL W8S – solid, fast quad core budget phone makes the Galaxy S4 look a little over priced [Review]

The idea that you can only guarantee top quality smartphone quality from a big name brand is fast becoming an old concept. We’ve been tracking the rise and rise of the Chinese smartphone brands for a while now, and it’s clear that these ‘lesser’ brands are starting to produce handsets that are every bit as good as the major brands, but at a fraction of the price.
