Hands On With The Samsung Galaxy SII Smartphone – …wow

So the good people at Three sent me a new Samsung Galaxy S2 (or is that SII?) Android powered smartphone to test last week, and I’ve been using it ever since. Ahem…now I realise why Apple has recently sued Samsung. It’s not just about the ostensible copying, this is about a mobile phone (and presumably a family of products) which have the real design and technical specification clout to unseat Apple from its current leadership of the ‘cool’ smartphone pack. Make…

Swiftpoint Review – Hands on with the mouse of the future

There are two types of people in the world, those that use laptop computer trackpads, and those that think there must be something better. Kiwi outfit, Swiftpoint, clearly fall into the latter category as they have come up with the Swiftpoint travel mouse. It’s about the size of a zippo lighter, charges in 30 seconds and may just change the way you use your laptop forever.

Kogan 6″ eBook Reader – Hands on review

The 6″ ebook market is where all the action is these days with new models coming out, it seems, every month. Australian online electronics company Kogan, perhaps better known for their cheap tellies, has dived in with their first ebook reader, the ‘Kogan 6″ eBook Reader‘. It comes equipped with a 6″, 4 bit (16 shades) e-ink screen, 2GB of onboard storage, SD card slot and an mp3 player. Here’s my take on it.

Tokyoflash Kisai Escape C- Hands on review with an awesome Bluetooth widget

The Tokyoflash Kisai Escape C is a Bluetooth receiver that turns any set of headphones or earphones into a Bluetooth headset or a pair of stereo wireless earphones. It’s a great idea and perfect for people who want stereo options with their Bluetooth headsets or just want to use their favourite headphones, wirelessly. Here’s my take on it.

Powergorilla – the only portable charger you’ll need

I have been testing a Powergorilla portable charger for a few weeks now, mainly as a phone charger for extended trips rather than a laptop charger, and one thing sticks out –  this is not your average power block. The massive 21000mAh capacity battery pack for standard 5V USB devices is absolutely superb, and means you can keep all your gadgets charged on the move, without having to worry about finding a mains power socket at all. I’ve successfully used it to keep…

Excalibur Smartphone with Android 2.1 – Mini hands on review

Chinavasion have recently added instructions for upgrading their cool Excalibur smartphone to Android 2.1. for anyone who purchased it early and got the 1.6 version missing the Android Marketplace. We quite liked the Excalibur when it was running 1.6, and 2.1 is definitely an improvement. The instructions are fairly simple however they didn’t work for me, I had use the second lot of directions further down the page and reflash it using the ROM Update Tool (RUT) but 20 minutes…

3M MPro150 – hands on with this cute little pocket projector

The 3M MPro150 is one of a new breed of pocket, or pico, projectors, distinguished by uprated brightness, increased internal memory and improved functionality. I’ve been testing one out for a while, and first reports are that it’s a cracking piece of kit, which offers a wide range of value for both business and pleasure. The first surprise is the build quality of the device. It comes complete with a full set of cables, manual and charger as you’d expect, but…

Electric Bike Challenge – GoCycle vs Brompton Nano

Electric are beginning to enter a new phase of popularity, spurred on by rising oil prices, cheaper components and a populace eager to save money on their commuting and daily travel costs. The result has been a flood of new entrants to the market in recent months, underpinned by a new crop of cheap Chinese electric motors which are more efficient, and cheaper than ever. I thought I’d take a look at two of the products jostling for our cash,…

Devotec Solar Sound 2 – super cool solar powered Bluetooth speaker really delivers

The new Devotec Solar Sound 2 Bluetooth Speaker has got to be one of the coolest portable speakers I’ve come across yet. As well as offering conventional wireless Bluetooth sound from your mobile phone or other BT device, it can act as a bridge between your phone and HiFi, using the Line Out socket and a cable connected to your stereo system. The twin speakers really are loud, which probably results from the really solid heft of the case, this is not one of those nasty lightweight plasticy portable…

MiPhone A3 – hands on with the Android powered iPhone super clone

The MiPhone A3 is an Android powered iPhone clone which comes with probably the best specification of any clone handset on the market at the moment. We got our hands on one to test, and found the phone to have a surprisingly well built feel, while suffering from a number of software glitches which made it a little frustrating to use at times. Read on for our review and video hands on covering the good and bad bits of this…

Excalibur 3G Android Phone – Hands on review of an Android smartphone for the rest of us

This Excalibur 3G Android Phone is the first higher-end, unbranded Android phone we’ve managed to get our greasy little paws on. It’s fully-featured too with a 3.2″ resistive touchscreen, GPS, camera, rotatable screen, trackball, stereo bluetooth and a pair of batteries so it should keep you out of trouble. Turns out it’s a pretty darn good phone at a good price too. If you like just jump to the end and check out the hands-on video and conclusion.

E Ink Technology Sneak Peak – we get a sneaky look at some of the upcoming e-paper displays

We were fortunate enough to grab a brief session with E Ink Vice President of Marketing, Sriram Peruvemba the other day in a bookstore in London, to have a chat about upcoming E Ink technologies and where they would be popping up in the near future. Among the interesting prototypes and samples he showed me were an E Ink access card, which contains a random number generator for instant security access and a mobile phone with a dynamic graphical cover, which changed patterns constantly….
