The Good Guide is an ethical product search portal. The idea is you can search for ratings, information and discussion on products that interest you to see just how environmentally and socially aware they are. The amount of detail per product is very impressive, from the single page you will…

Hands on with the Asus eeePC 1000HE – fabulous mini notebook marred by rip-off pricing

We got sent a sparkly new Asus EeePC 1000HE mini notebook computer to play with the other day and we’re very impressed in many ways and extremely disappointed in one. First the good news – this is the first laptop computer we’ve tried which actually delivers on the promise of a decent battery life without resorting to huge clunky add-on packs. When they say all day computing in the blurb, they mean it.

Subhuman Project – pedalling across the Atlantic 30 foot under the waves

If everything goes as planned, sometime later this year Ted Ciamillo will step into his one man pedal powered sub and start a 2,300 mile journey below the waves of the Atlantic Ocean which he expects to take just 50 days. The Subhuman Project marries ultra high technology, eccentric derring-do and a touch of Indiana Jones in an attempt to grab a whole new perspective on ocean life around the clock.   The slow, un-powered craft will bristle with scientific…

I picked up on Kutiman Mixes YouTube from Metafilter a couple of days ago, but by the time I got around to posting, it had gone so viral the site was down. Sketchory – 250,000 free drawings for sharing

The awesome new Sketchory site offers up 250,000 drawings, doodles and sketches which can be shared, remixed and generally utilised for free under a Creative Commons attribution license. You can’t use more than 1000 in your projects, but you can use the images commercially, which is very generous. They need help with tagging, and be prepared for some…ah…rather rough efforts, but it’s a superb effort all round and deserves to be hugely successful. Oh and check out the cool animation…

SeaCode – offshoring done Love Boat style

A couple of enterprising chaps have launched a new venture called SeaCode which aims to offer an offshoring software production service based on a cruise ship permanently stationed 3 miles out to sea off the San Diego coastline. It’s a genius idea, but of course there’s going to be a whole heap of hoo-haa reaction once onshore programmers start losing contracts to these peripatetic programming pirates. They’re calling it Hybrid-Sourcing, and the plan is to house 600 top class foreign software engineers…
