Could Ingress And Glass Become Google’s Next Killer Product?

For the past couple of weeks I’ve been playing a game called Ingress, developed by Google and currently being played in closed invite-only beta across the world. The game, which draws heavily on a kind of Matrix meets StarCraft science fiction styling, melds augmented reality with smartphones, computers and the kind of backstory that only a Hollywood scriptwriter could dream up.

Buycott – finally there’s a guilt free way to shop [Freeware]

It’s hard to remain a ‘concerned’ citizen nowadays because you can never tell whether a product you’re buying comes from a company whose ethics are questionable or worse. There are so many different degrees of ownership in the major corporates, that it’s almost impossible to trace who owns what when it comes to consumer products on the shelves.

NVIDIA Project Shield – handheld gaming got a serious upgrade

Do you remember when a new portable gaming system came out and you thought it was a little too pricey? The original Nintendo Game Boy came out in 1989, and started off at around $90. While the quality of handheld gaming has vastly improved since then, do you think you could find it in you to put down $350 for one?

Space Oddity – without question the greatest Bowie cover ever recorded

There are cover songs and then there are…you know…cover songs, and this version of David Bowie’s Space Oddity recorded by Commander Chris Hadfield on board the International Space Station is the single most awesome rendition of the song you’re ever going to see.

Tailor4Less – men’s and ladies custom tailored clothes for people who hate shopping

Chances are if you’re a busy person you may not have the time or the inclination to spend shopping around for clothes. Men in particular seem to dislike the process of hunting around in stores, maybe because we have smaller brains?

iceKube Speaker – big things come in small packages

Whenever you get a speaker for your laptop or phone, you want something that is portable, but will give you a lot of bang for your buck. Of course, that means putting money down on something that will probably fizzle or crack after using it for about a month. Tiny speakers oftentimes just can’t handle constantly being cranked up to 11, which is why vibration speakers are so awesome.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Review – 10 slick features of this amazing new smartphone which deserve more attention [Video Review]

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is sleek, powerful and probably one of the most impressive mobile phones ever released. It’s not just the headline features which make this product so special, but the fact that Samsung is clearly willing to continue pushing the envelope in terms of experimental features and services. Where its rivals seem to remain focused on hardware specs, Samsung is clearly transitioning itself into a full services supplier, using its handsets as the engine to drive more branded…

Tobii PCEye Go will let you control your computer with your eyes

We take many things for granted until we no longer have use of them. Chances are you’ve never imagined what life would be like without the use of your hands. No more sending a quick text, handshakes, typing out an email, and the list goes on and on. It can take away a lot of your independence, but thanks to technology, those who are disabled don’t have to feel as though they are completely left out.

Wool and Prince – Washing clothes is now optional

When it comes to laundry, most males I’ve known are not too keen on the subject. They do the “sniff and wear” test, rather than just washing after one or two uses. While there’s nothing wrong with living a low-maintenance lifestyle, you should be wearing clothes that don’t start to stink if you’re not going to clean them…but does such a thing exist?

Car Mirror Bluetooth Dashcam GPS Speed Detector has more on-board tech than the Space Shuttle

OK so look, we’re cool with miniaturization. We understand that if there’s a way the factory can cram something extra into a product, they will. Because, well because they can.

Adlens Hemisphere – variable focus glasses let you instantly dial in your perfect prescription [Review]

If you wear glasses, you’ll know a few truths that other mortals do not. For one thing, it’s easier than you think to lose or misplace your set. For another, it’s a real pain having to visit the optician every year to have your eyes checked for changes.

The Decelerator Helmet – could living our life in slow motion be a way to combat data overload?

If you’ve ever wished that things weren’t so stressed and life wasn’t moving so fast, then you might appreciate the technology that German art student Lorenz Potthast has embedded in his Decelerator Helmet.

Lightpack is the open-source little brother of Illumiroom

When we watch TV or play games, we tend to be doing so in the evening in a dark room. This is obviously not improving your eyesight, as you’re putting your pupil through an overly strenuous workout. It’s a good idea to have ambient lighting around to make things easier for your eyes to process, but you don’t want to ruin the immersion from a lamp or room light being on.
