The LED Museum.

The LED Museum. More…oh so much more…than you’ll ever, EVER, want to know about LEDs in all their forms. Flashlight reviews, user mods, acronyms, top picks…I’m exhausted just thinking about it. Not the prettiest design in the world, though, we have to say.  The LED Museum is an award winning site made by an LED nut, for LED nuts; containing real-world test results of all kinds of different light emitting diodes & LED flashlights. Featuring the world’s only “LED Museum”…

Chocolate roses.

Chocolate Roses. By Lisa. Oy, oy, oy! Unbelievable. $250.00 each.  I create one of a kind artwork by sculpting roses from pure chocolate. I spend nearly a full day in the creation of a single full-size chocolate rose. I take no shortcuts and put no adulterants into the chocolate I work with. If you’d like a look at what I can do using pure white and dark chocolate applied over a marzipan truffle and nothing else except an occasional dash…

Traffic master.

Traffic Cams via Google Maps. London. Awesome combination of technologies. See also the rather clever WiFi Hotspots via Google Maps. New York. Not quite so dramatically impressive, but still cool. [via Robot Wisdom – welcome back Jorn!]

Finger PIN.

The BiometricPIN. Super cool biometric security. Don’t just use your fingerprints – since they can be spoofed – but also incorporate a finger PIN, which you use by tapping with your fingers in a certain order. Five years in development and pure genius.  Instead of using a single, easily lifted or stolen fingerprint, BiometricPIN will allow any number of fingers to be used in any sequence determined by the user. No one has been able to achieve this so far and the…

Giga-pixel image masters.

The GigaPxl Project. Awesome high resolution images of up to four billion pixels. Don’t believe me? Then zoom into one of the shots and see for yourself.  The Gigapxl camera captures single exposures on film with enough resolvable detail to support scanning at resolutions up to four billion pixels. Single-gigapixel images are slightly larger than 44,000 x 22,000 pixels in size and four-gigapixel images are twice as wide and twice as high at 88,000 x 44,000 pixels…Incidentally, a four billion…

Atlas of the Human Journey.

I admit it, I’m a closet anthropologist. Yep, I know exactly where my wardrobe came from. That’s why I lurve this stunning NatGeo Atlas of the Human Journey. Man’s migration over time. From Africa to Abercrombie & Fitch – just de-lovely.  When humans first ventured out of Africa some 60,000 years ago, they left genetic footprints still visible today. By mapping the appearance and frequency of genetic markers in modern peoples, we create a picture of when and where ancient humans moved around…

Firefox on fire!

Inspired by the BoingBoing figures I’ve just checked the Ferret stats again. The Firefox browser is now the clear leader at 59% of Ferret readership. Click the image above for a larger view. Wow, that’s nearly double since we first checked in January.

Retro phone clone.

The 1884 Ericsson Trade Mark Telephone. $59.95. This is one cool looking repro phone, complete with last number redial too. But why oh why do they keep installing push button dials, eh? Tsk. Still…”Hello, hello? Operator? Get me Sam Linklater at the Daily Bugle.”  Not only did Lars Magnus Ericsson invent this incredible telephone in 1884, he constructed each and every one of them with his very own hands…The “Trade Mark” phone broke ground by being one of the first truly…

Call it a draw, then?

There’s probably no better way of saying ‘I trust you’, than wearing a full Gothic Suit of Armour to your wedding ceremony. Clanking clumsily up the aisle before swearing fealty has such an Arthurian feel to it, don’t you think? $2,750.00.  Offering a rounded surface to both lance and sword, the Italian Gothic armor was in high demand throughout Europe. During this period of time, the average suit of armor would cost about the same as a top of the…
