From the ‘I want’ Department. Those clever boffins in Huddersfield, Yorkshire (where?) have come up with something called the Silence Machine. Apparently working on similar principles to sound cancelling headphones, this machine can filter out noises based on user set up. The creators expect to produce sophisticated versions for the home within a year or so, which will be able to screen out noise such as music and speech. Think of it, no more banging on your wall to silence…

The Roq-it, yet another pretender to the iPod throne, but at a particularly interesting – read cheap – price. 10GB should be enough MP3 storage space for most people, but what’s with the USB connection? Doesn’t anyone realise just how slooooow that can be?

If you like speakers you may like these. Derived from some very expensive technology indeed, these ‘full circle’ OmniSat speakers promise to deliver perfect audio integrity (!) no matter where you place them. They apparently radiate the sound rather than projecting it directionally like conventional speakers, which makes for a better surround sound effect. The full 5.1 surround set will cost 1600.00 (phew!) but there will be a cheaper micro version coming along real soon now.
