Save some money by making your own ethernet cables

Have you ever gone to the store to purchase a network cable? If you have, then you know that they aren’t exactly cheap, not for a simple cable, that is. Well it should come as no surprise that companies make a good bit of of these accessories, as the markups are incredible. So how do you get around this? By making your own, that’s how. Not only will you pay less, but you’re also going to get a cable that’s…

Use this Cordless Backyard Mosquito Mister to keep your yard free of pests

The great thing about warm weather is that you can spend more time outdoors enjoying nature. The downside is that not all of nature is fun to enjoy. I’m referring mostly to mosquitoes and other flying insects. An attack by these pests can leave one itchy and miserable. If you’re looking for a way to keep the bugs at bay, you might try out this Cordless Backyard Mosquito Mister. This device uses “EPA-registered permethrin–a synthetic form of naturally occurring pyrethrin…

DIY Arduino Controlled Can Crusher takes the work out of collecting cans

With the economy how it is, people are trying to find good ways to earn an extra bit of cash here and there. One way you can accomplish this is by recycling aluminum cans (if you drink a lot of soda and such). It’s not a terribly difficult thing to do, as it merely requires the effort to crush each one and toss it into a bag. Once you have enough, take it down to your local recycling center and…

Conserve Socket uses a timer to prevent wasted electricity

These days it’s not uncommon for a person to carry at least one gadget with them at all times. Sometimes you’ll carry more than one, depending on your needs. In order for these devices to keep pace with you, they need to be charged for a few hours. But how often do you charge them for the exact amount of time necessary? Well, when you leave them on the charger for hours after they’ve received a full charge, you’re wasting…

This time of year brings us warm weather, which makes us want to spend more time outside. Well, sometimes when you’re out and about, you need a place to sit. The go-to choice is a fold-up chair. Turn your old car stereo into one you can use inside

I’m all about repurposing old gadgets into another useful device. There’s just something about breathing new life into old electronics that is just fun. One way you can do this is by taking your old car stereo that you’ve upgraded, and turning it into your home stereo system. Obviously you aren’t going to be able to just set it on your shelf and plug in some speakers. It takes a bit more work, which is outlined in this guide. This…

Paper Pens are very eco-friendly

As time goes on, it seems that we as people become more wasteful. With new technologies leaving our gadgets outdated, we feel the need to constantly upgrade. This is exactly why we need to focus on being more eco-friendly in our everyday lives. Doing small things might not undo the damage we’ve caused to the environment, but every little bit helps. Take, for instance, these Paper Pens. Ideally, we should be able to buy one or two pens, then just…

Easily fix your headphone cord with Plasti Dip

Don’t you hate having a nice pair of headphones, only to have something happen to the cord? As long as the copper wire itself isn’t damaged, you can easily cover it with electrical tape. Of course, such a fix is very noticeable and unattractive. Well there is another easy way to repair them, without creating an eyesore. An Instructables user has posted a simple guide on using Plasti Dip to cover the bare wire, while giving it the same look…

Cut perfect slices with the Pizza Scissors & Spatula

I’m the kind of person that eats pizza a lot. Some say that I eat it entirely too often, I say that I don’t eat it enough. Now I don’t just order out, mind you. I actually love making my own pies, as there are certain tastes that I just can’t get delivered. One thing that annoys me when I’ve pulled my delicious creation from the oven is how a pizza cutter doesn’t work with my pan. The pan has…

33-in-1 Telescoping Golf Club might be the only one you’ll ever need

Golf is one of those leisurely games that one tends to play to relax, more than anything. Granted, I’ve only been a few times (putt-putt is my game) so maybe I haven’t found the competitive side to the game. One thing I do know is that you need a variety of clubs if you want to make the right shot. These clubs cost money, and are a pain to lug around. Wouldn’t it be great if you could just carry…

Padlock USB Drive – cute, but probably not as secure as it looks…

This Padlock USB Drive may not stop your computer being stolen, or anything being stolen for that matter, but it’s kind of cute isn’t it? Maybe because it’s shiny, or a stupid waste of design and manufacturing time. Or something. Ah well…anyhoo, it’s $34.00 for 8 GB storage. Data security not guaranteed.  USB Lock Flash Drive is built-in flash memory lets you store your data on the go. Tags: gadget, padlock+usb+drive, usb

InstantFox – freeware addon delivers super fast search to the Firebox address bar

InstantFox is a new and rather cool free Firefox addon which adds super powers to your browser address box. Once installed it delivers a bunch of very useful shortcuts for search as well as giving instant access to apps like calculator etc. There’s nothing here you can’t do with other addons and/or with a bit of manual configuration, but it’s still very cool. The only slight glitch I suffered was the fact that it pushes some of my nav bar…

The Usability of Passwords – a new way to stay safe out there

This Usability of Passwords is a new take on the whole security and password issue, which refreshingly suggests that there are alternative ways to stay safe apart from coming up with ever more complicated and unmemorable passwords. It’s a great read if you’re finding it difficult to keep up with the demands of logins for the mountain of web services out there, and don’t want to trust your life to a single sign-in solution which could be compromised in an instant…
