muvichip – a pocket-size replacement for the DVD

The future of DVD’s may well be in jeopardy due to a small, very exciting innovation that was just demonstrated at the Sierra Nevada Innovation Challenge in northern California. The muvichip, made by start-up company Flixchip, is a thin, credit card sized plastic card with a USB port. This simple device can slip easily into a pocket with room to spare. Each of these colorful cards hold one movie, which is viewed by inserting a thumbnail-sized magnetic chip with a…

The brilliant Airdroid integrates your smartphone and laptop browser to deliver real awesomeness [Freeware]

The smartphone is starting to push traditional computing aside, simply because a handset is generally more convenient to use than a cumbersome laptop (and let’s not even mention desktop PCs, where are they now?). Of course you can’t do everything with a phone, but you can definitely handle most of the communication tasks, like email and instant messaging (WhatsApp = total awesome!), as well as things like location searching and simple information browsing. But there are times when it would be really useful…

Shaka will tell you where the perfect surf spot is

If you want to go surfing, you know that wind is going to play a major part in how good the waves are. Even if you pull up a weather app on your phone, you’re likely not going to get the most accurate reading for when you reach the shore. You could always go out and take your chances, but why bother if you can know for certain one way or the other?

Glowdoggie will keep you from panicking about your pooch

Keeping an eye on your dog while you’re out on a walk is quite important. You need to make sure they don’t get into anything they shouldn’t be in, or are harassing anyone (dog, cat or human) nearby. This is a particularly difficult job in general, but it becomes much harder at night when you can’t see your furry friend.

Movies.io is a brilliant example of how future movie consumption should be tailored

Every now and then there’ll be a report in the press about yet another RIAA/MPAA initiative to crack down on piracy, and the PRs will trot out the same old tired stats and make the same old weary comments about how their industry is being ruined by piracy. But the fact is most people don’t pirate and have no wish to, all they want is their digital entertainment delivered in the fastest most efficient way. And they’ll pay for it too. But…

NanoSTRIKER Fire Starter will be your light in a dark place

If you should be out camping, you might want to start a little fire at some point to make a meal, or just use it for light. It’s always nice to have a campfire to warm yourself by at the end of a long day, but starting a fire in the middle of the wilderness can be a bit difficult if you aren’t well-equipped. Not many people prefer to be in the dark when outside at night, but without the…

MondoHub has an ungodly amount of USB ports

We used to have to worry about having an open outlet to charge things, but that is no longer the case. Everything seems to have switched over to being powered or charged via USB, and while that’s not a bad thing, our computers only have so many ports. Of course, you can always buy a hub with a couple of additional openings, but what do you do when you run out room?

Wooden Chopper Motorbike is guaranteed to confuse the local squirrels

Question: What’s made out of black locust wood and animal horn, stores gas in a barrel and has a set of deer antlers for handlebars? Answer: Istvan Puskas’ glorious hand-made wooden chopper motorbike. The Hungarian master carver has gone the whole 9 yards with this beauty. Lurking inside that intricately constructed frame is a regular Fiat car engine, chopped and squeezed into place. There’s no word on how comfortable the thing is to ride, or how fast it goes, but…

Kuchofuku Air Conditioned Cooling Shirt keeps you smiling while the temperature soars

Summer sunshine is wonderful, especially if you’re used to living in some damp, dingy city where winter sits on your head like a wet bathrobe. But there is a downside to too much sun, and we don’t just mean the melting ice-cream or damp patches on the back of your pants. Having to work in extremely hot temperatures is enough to make the toughest dude wilt under pressure, and so it’s good to know there are options.
