ShowMySoft – what’s installed on my computer? [Freeware]

Do you know what programs you have installed on your Windows computer? Ever had a situation where you wanted to use an old program, but weren’t sure whether it was still on your machine? Of course there are ways to find out what you’ve installed over the years, like visiting the Programs section of your Control Panel, but it’s clunky at best and somewhat basic.

DeskNotifier – cool app lets you receive and reply to SMS messages and Android phone notifications on your PC instantly [Freeware]

We don’t know about you, but we often miss important messages or SMS texts coming in to our mobile phone because we’re working on the computer in another room, or the phone is buried in a pocket or bag and we don’t hear the alert chime. Now if only there was a way to link the PC and the phone together we could avoid the problem and stay updated constantly.

WiFi Kill – fight back against WiFi network hogs with one [naughty] little click [Freeware]

Ever been in a cafe which offers free WiFi and struggled to get anything done because someone else in there is hogging all the bandwidth watching YouTube videos of kittens? Yeah, we share your pain. Some folks don’t seem to understand that free WiFi is a social contract, you don’t abuse it and we won’t. Otherwise we just can’t have nice things.

Google Cloud Print – how to print out files from your Android phone to any printer for free [Freeware]

Smartphones are cool, but they do have a couple of serious limitations. For one, they can’t go out in the morning and pick up your newspaper from the porch, and for another, they’re pretty useless when it comes to printing out information. Sure you can move the files/data from the phone to the PC and then print, but what if you want to print directly from the phone?

Spotify Recorder – save your favorite songs to hard disk for those un-connected times [Freeware]

The world of music is changing day by day. Where once we used to buy albums, now we’re happy with tracks and EPs. Where you would lovingly build a collection of music complete with album artwork and extras, now most of us are happy with a phone or player full of digital, no visuals needed.

Workrave – this free little program might just save your life [Freeware]

You don’t have to look far to find any number of research studies which point out the dangers of sitting down all day as we do our jobs in front of computer screens. EmotionSense – get in touch with the real you, with a little help from technology [Freeware]

We’re all subject to mood swings, no matter how old we are or where we live. Day to day, moment to moment there are things which continually affect our emotions, equilibrium and state of mind. It’s almost scary how random it all seems. But what if there was a way to work out why we feel like we feel, using nothing more exotic than our phone?

You don’t have to live in an earthquake zone to appreciate the benefits of knowing if and when things are going to get a little hot and sticky at any time. And by things, we mean natural disasters.
