AndrOpen Office – world’s first port of the Open Office suite to Android…so close…. [Freeware]

Regular readers will know how fanatical we are about LibreOffice as a great open source alternative to the grossly over-priced Microsoft Office products, which is hardly surprising since LibreOffice is a awesome. So imagine how pleased we are to announce the arrival of an Android office suite which promises all the same functionality for your tablet or smartphone.

OneTab for Google Chrome – One tab to rule them all [Freeware]

We remember a day when browsers didn’t have tabs. If you wanted to visit two sites at once, you had to open another window. However, tabs are a technology we got behind in a big way, sometimes resulting in more tabs open than one human could possibly handle all at once. Thankfully, Chrome users now have a way to tidy up the tab-hoarding.

Telegram – open source, ultra secure messaging service takes on WhatsApp and other proprietary products [Freeware]

Not another messaging app, we hear you cry. But wait, this could actually be the best thing since sliced bread, especially as it’s fully open source and the developers have committed to never charging a penny or displaying nasty adverts. Ah…see…now you’re listening…

Folder Player – play your music from your folders for convenience [Freeware]

There’s one very strange thing about general MP3 music player apps for phones. They tend to only give you the option to play your music collection by genres, or artists or other similar functions. Only on some of the more sophisticated (and costly) players do you get to listen to your collection by folder. And yet a lot of us store our music by folder, rather than any other method.

Daily Free Books – free Kindle ebooks delivered to your email inbox every day [Freeware]

Regular readers will know that we’re lovers of the free eBook service from Amazon and other booksellers, and although Amazon ticked us off recently by removing the ability to log RSS feeds of new books in particular genres, it seems there’s now an alternative option which is almost as useful.

Cyberlink YouSnap – cool app auto-corrects your document captures to give great results each time [Freeware]

One of the top uses for camera phones is capturing documents and notes on the go, kind of like a pocket scanner but much more flexible. One of the problems though, is the fact that image grabs done in a hurry can be less than perfect…either out of skew or indistinct in some way or another.

Timely – absolutely gorgeous alarm clock for Android, now free of charge [Freeware]

Last week Google swooped in and bought yet another small company using it’s extremely large duffel bag of loose change and lunch vouchers. But this time, instead of immediately shutting down the product and re-deploying the engineers towards the rear of the Googleplex building, Google has done the unthinkable. It’s turned a great product into a free one.

AppsApk – freeware app market lets you download Android apk files without the Google Play hassles [Freeware]

There are times when you need to download and install an Android app quickly, without having to go through the hassle of signing in to a Google account. When? Well for instance if you’re trying out a different phone, you live in a country which doesn’t have full access to Play or you need to temporarily revert back to an old handset for testing or in an emergency.
