Dexrex is a rather clever freeware tool for archiving your instant messaging and SMS chats. It’s a hosted online application, which integrates with your IM clients via a set of downloadable plugins. Just download, install and start up MSN, AIM, Skype or whatever and the chat will be recorded and stored to the Dexrex servers automatically. You can import old conversations (via a Java applet) and once your chats are stored you have full search facilities available to locate stuff as you need. There are other features too, such as analytical tools and a service for the Blackberry SMS. Nice idea.

What is Dexrex Dexrex is a secure online personal database for IM conversation. With Dexrex you can archive Instant Messages and search through them, share them, and access them at any time from any computer with an internet connection. Why would I want to save my IM conversations? For a whole bunch of reasons. Maybe you forgot that phone number from the other day. Or you really want to share the video your friend sent you. Or you’re just looking to save your conversations for posterity. Dexrex makes it easy to do any of these. We’ve also built an analytics suite, so the more messages you save, the more tools you can unlock.
