Guideal – psst…fancy becoming a tour guide?

Guideal is an interesting little idea. It’s basically an online portal for amateur and professional tour guides. The idea is to harness the wisdom of the crowds to match those who would like a tour of a location with those who would like to give a tour of their favourite locale. Some of the guides want money, some offer tours on the site for free, but either way you’ve got to love the sentiment.

It’s very early days yet, so there are not many guides, and there’s some might say that right now is probably not the best time to offer anything to do with tourism, what with the price of fuel etc, but it’s a nice, simple application which may make people happy. And is there anything so wrong with that we ask? There’s guide profiles, feedback ratings and all the usual stuff, and it really is a great way to encourage people to meet face to face – shock horror! – through similar interests. Cool.

Guideal is the link between people wishing to show around their neighbourhood or city and tourists wanting to discover a location in company of one of its residents. Each amateur or professional tour guide creates his own tour according to his knowledge and personality and is paid, if he/she wants to, for each tour accomplished. With Guideal, anyone can be a tour guide!

  • A connection between travellers and the local is a good idea. Another site http://www.ourexplorer.com offers similar value. Encourage people to explore a place through the eyes of a local. But OurExplorer provides people with professional tour guides.
