Jabra SP700 Car Speakerphone – at last a hands-free device that is actually really useful

Jabrasp700

I’ve been playing with a Jabra SP700 Bluetooth Speakerphone for a while and oooh! I tend to stay away from this kind of tech, because it’s a bit sales vehicle boring, know what I mean, but this is the first hands-free product which has really made me sit up and take notice. It’s not just because it looks pretty cool either, although it does. All black shiny ‘use the force, Luke’ like. Nope, it’s because it adds value to my mobile life in a very practical and well thought out way.

The device offers the usual Bluetooth connection to give your cell phone hands-free capabilities, and it works well. There’s a minimal amount of set up hassles and a super simple interface. We’re talking one main button, volume up/down and a second button fro the real cool feature which is the FM transmitter. Just press the FM button and the unit will send your phone’s MP3 music player audio to the nearest FM radio in the vehicle. You can select different frequencies if interference is a problem.

What makes this a winner is the ease of use. I charged the thing up – a 2 hour USB charge gives 14 hours talk, 255 hours standby – slotted it over the sun visor, pressed the main button for power on and it paired instantly with my Nokia N82. And that was that. Just press the FM button, set the radio to the frequency which the unit audibly announces and voila, all your fave tunes from the phone loud, clear and hiss free on the in-car stereo system. There’s auto-switching between phone calls and music (and in my case GPS instructions too) which makes the whole thing very cool for safe and simple driving.

It’s all voice controlled, has a very nice auto-switch off once you leave the vehicle and the echo cancellation and noise reduction makes the audio as good as you’ll get in your Trabant Deluxe vehi-cule. Lovely bit of kit, so congrats to Jabra. £49.99.

This stylish, versatile new speakerphone can be used on its own or to transmit the calls to your car’s audio system with no installation necessary. What’s more, this compact device can also be used to stream music stored on your mobile phone through your car stereo speakers, allowing you to enjoy your favorite track while driving. Driver friendly – the Jabra SP700 offers a new level of usability and safety for Bluetooth speakerphones. Intuitive voice announcements give you the speakerphone’s status so you can keep your eyes on the road. Plus, excellent audio quality is guaranteed thanks to the advanced DSP noise reduction & echo cancellation
