Huawei D100 Router – turns your 3G dongle into a WiFi network

Huaweid100router

The Huawei D100 Router is a WiFi router with a difference. Instead of plugging it into your landline broadband connection, you slot a standard 3G USB dongle into the top, at which point it shares out the 3G broadband with any device in the area. This is perfect if you’re travelling and need to give the family their own WiFi connection in a hotel or holiday let.

The 3 site claims the router is only compatible with their dongle, which is interesting, but I’m guessing they’ve just been given a head start in the market, after which the D100 will appear for every service provider. Anyhoo, it’s a cool product indeed. The company is pricing it at £69.99 plus a 3 mobile broadband plan.

Just plug your 3 Mobile Broadband dongle* into the router and you’ve got access to the internet that you can share with wi-fi enabled devices such as a PC, Mac or laptop. You can even connect more than one computer at a time, using just one dongle. *The router is only compatible with Huawei Mobile Broadband dongles from 3.

  • Very. Very. Very cool. I love my 3g dongle form Three, but this would make things even better if I’m hanging out with mates who all want a bit of wifi. My only concern is how reliable it will be. My 3 dongle is not the most reliable of beasts.

  • I could really use something like this. I get 3g service through Verizon and something like this would allow both my wife and I both to connect at the same time rather than trading the dongle around.

  • dont buy it its a load ov crap i have 1 its way slow

    • hah ha ha

  • what is the best alternative if I don't like buying the original Three router? I am on three broadband contract using their dongle at the minute.
    Thanks

  • Can anybody tell me if this device will enable me to use my 3 dongle with Linux? Really would appreciate it if anybody can answer this!

  • u dumbos do u know how to even use it & set it up easy and also control the bandwidth so it's fair share internet usage & no-one can do massive downloads ha! I got a optus usb dongle works like a dream. U can also go into advanced settings and control who can access etc.,.
