Blip FM – Digg for music?

Blipfm

Blip FM is a new service that offers up music in a continuous rolling front page stream. It’s got a shed load of voting options (hence the Digg reference) for DJs as well as tracks, and the community plays a big part in driving music and DJs to prominent positions on the site through favouriting and things called blips (aka votes) and props.

It’s got a cutesy design, an impressive set of features and can be quite engrossing, which has got to be good. It’s nice to see that folks are still experimenting with the online music genre and not just trying to copycat each other. Take a bit of time out if you’ve got some spare and play around after registering, you might enjoy it.

I blipped a song yesterday and now it says “unavailable”. What’s the deal? Songs are hosted all over the internet by different servers and websites. Sometimes the server goes down and the song isn’t available to play, or perhaps the owner of the file has taken it off the internet for good. If you are an artist and your music is showing up as “unavailable” the most reliable way to make your music available for others to blip is to upload it to your Blip.fm profile.
