So the Gnutella network looks as though it is undergoing an exponential growth pattern, up from around 100,000 hosts a month or so back, to around 300,000 today. Of course most of this is due to the influx of Morpheus users from FastTrak, but it is interesting to note that the system seems to be coping with the strain. In other words you can still find and download stuff in reasonable time frames.

It remains to be seen whether the widely predicted Gnutella meltdown will actually occur then, doesn’t it, because it certainly isn’t happening right now!

Update: Oh and a couple of the best Gnutella clients around? Xolox from zeropaid.com and the new Clean Limewire, which is Limewire without all the spyware bloat.

Update 2: So another couple of days passes and still no meltdown, and the Gnutella network is now reading 375,000 hosts and climbing. You can check the figure by going to Limewire.com and clicking on Network size. Sorry no direct link.
