Bicycle Built for 2000 is a recording that was created using 2088 different people’s voices assembled into a single song. Each person was asked to sing a small snippet of a song that they had just heard and submit it via Amazon’s Mechanical Turk. The song snippet they were asked to replicated was actually a recording of a machine singing “Daisy Bell”, made in 1962 as the first example of musical speech synthesis. The final outcome is a cacophony of sounds that replicates not only the machine singing, but also the melody and bass to create something quite extraordinary. [Via information aesthetics]
