Everything Search is a superb freeware desktop search tool which combines a blindingly fast indexing engine with a super swift instant result search. It indexed my full Vista machine and external drive in just 3 minutes (we’re talking 300+ GB of data!) after which I could find any file or folder instantly by typing just a few letters. It supports boolean and wildcards too, which makes it even more of a beauty. Definitely a keeper!

”Everything” is an administrative tool that locates files and folders by filename instantly for Windows. Unlike Windows search “Everything” initially displays every file and folder on your computer (hence the name “Everything”). You type in a search filter to limit what files and folders are displayed.

There's another program that can do much better than 3 minutes. It looks much better too. I use it and Everything side by side.

It's called neosearch – http://koshyjohn.com/software/neosearch.html

I can't make up my mind which one is better basically because neosearch doesn't support wildcards while searching. It is far superior to Everything in terms of speed and memory usage though. Give it a go – you'll like it.

I recommend TheSearchMan.

unlike Everything , TheSearchMan’s database is encrypted and it doesn’t show ALL files at the startup.
The database of Everything is on the most wanted List of hackers as it lists all your files.

TheSearchMan is a mere 30 KB download.
It is portable also. That means NO INSTALLATION.

Unlike Everything or Locate32 which can only search in the index, TheSearchMan can do real searching,ie, in the drive with a super fast speed.

It searched my 50GB Seagate drive in a little over 2 seconds.
It has bagged many 5 stars and Top Software awards.

The interface of TheSearchMan is extremely simple.
Just enter the path and search criteria

TheSearchMan’s database is updated on the fly.

Everything is a brilliant piece of software, but I had a few problems:
1. starting the program sometimes takes several seconds – 20 sec just to make it appear!
2. right-clicking occationally crashes the program…
Does anyone else have these problems?

Hmm can it also search public folders??
I search everything with Lookeen…this tool can also search public folders and sharepoints and the whole desktop…really amazing!!
