Lehr make a range of propane-powered garden equipment including this Propane-Powered Lawn Trimmer. Propane is brilliant as a fuel as it burns much cleaner than petrol, and propane engines are simpler and lighter. The Lehr Trimmer runs on propane from an ordinary 16 oz gas bottle which you can pick up from any hardware store. Just screw it in and away you go, no mess, no choke, no priming. The engine is a 25cc four-stroke so it’s quieter than a petrol two-stroke but still has plenty of power.

So why use propane? Well, it has the equivalent of 110 octane rating to start and it doesn’t go off when you store it for long periods like petrol. It’s also safer as there are no refilling fumes and no chance you’ll slop fuel over a hot exhaust. Lehr reckon one cylinder will last you about 2 hours and the empty cylinder can be completely recycled. Refilling it would be a better option if you could.

Lehr have a range of straight and bent trimmers both with and without detachable shafts. A detachable bent shaft trimmer will set you back US$209.99 on Amazon. They also have a propane powered leaf blower arriving the Q3 of 2009. Check ‘em out.

The LEHR Eco Trimmer is the first hand-held 4-cycle trimmer that uses a standard 16.4 ounce propane canister as its fuel source. It is safer, healthier and easier to use than a gasoline powered grass trimmer, weed wacker or weed eater. The Eco Trimmer starts faster, runs cleaner and requires very little maintenance over the course of a full season of use.

Is it wrong that I still can't hear the word "propane" without thinking about King of the Hill?

I always wanted to turn a weed eater into a bike, but I never knew how. I guess a google search would probably show me the way.

Side note: I LOVE the header for this site, it's so cool! Did you do that yourself or have someone design it for you?

I've seen lawn trimmer motors powering skate boards. I don't think they could move a bike very far but it would sure make pedaling easier.

The site design is done by these people: http://www.telidesign.com, I have no idea if they did the illustration as well. Nigel will know.
