The new Huawei E583X Wireless Modem is a thing of beauty indeed. We’re big fans of the Huawei E220 mini USB broadband dongle, and this puppy looks as though it will follow in its footsteps. The big new feature is the fact that the device acts like a wireless access point (kind of like the Novatel MiFi product).
However, unlike the MiFi, we’re guessing that you’ll be able to unlock it pretty easily like the E220, so you won’t be tied to one 3G service provider. It’s also really small (i.e. keychain sized) and it comes with an integrated microSD slot which means you can use it as a memory expansion flash disk too. Just switch it on, drop it into your bag or pocket and access it from your laptop like a standard WiFi hotspot. Cool. The battery will apparently last for 5 hours, but that’s to be taken with a pinch of salt, eh? [Via Crave]
With E583X, you no longer need to carry a bulky Internet cable. The size of a small key chain, it fits in your pocket or wallet. You simply turn on the W-Fi switch and enjoy immediate access to a high speed HSPA network. E583X can automatically create group Internet access and individual WiFi hot points for network digital equipment such as laptops, mobile phones, cameras, games consoles, and MP4 devices.
That charger looks as though it will break the connector off the first day.
