Drinkwell 360 Water Fountain for Pets – give the little critters some fresh water

Drinkwellwaterfountainforpets

The Drinkwell 360 Water Fountain for Pets does have me a little perturbed. Should we be this focused on giving our animals carbon filtered, free falling water luxury, when we’re in a world where around 10 million children a year die from causes linked to unsafe water? Not trying to be judgemental here, just asking the question peeps. $58.49.

The kit includes five interchangeable spout heads in the center that let you customize the flow, from one stream of water up to five, and a flow control on the top cap lets you easily adjust the speed of the water flow. It can hold up to 1 gallon (128 ounces) of water that passes through an activated carbon filter inhibiting bacteria growth, aerating water with healthful oxygen and removing bad tastes and odors. The Drinkwell 360 Water Fountain pumps fresh, filtered water into the bowl and makes a great investment in the health of your pets.

  • I have one of these, only it's a smaller Drinkwell model, and I paid $30. In my defense, my cat had just been diagnosed with kidney disease, and my vet told me basically to get him to drink as much water as possible, and recommended a source of running water (this or a fish tank) to help him do so. I also had to give him daily fluids sub-cutaneously, so I'm sure you can see why I'd rather drop $30 on a drinking fountain than hold him down, stick him with an IV needle, and squeeze 100ml of fluid at a time into him.

Alas, his kidney disease was quick, and none of the treatments the vet or I tried worked, and he had to be put to sleep six weeks after his diagnosis. With kidney disease, cats essentially starve to death… not a great way to go.

So yeah, there's my rationale as to why I bought a pet fountain.

  • We have cats that love to drink from a running tap. This item could give them that feeling without all that water running away needlessly. However, we already have a Catit® Water Fountain which 'only' costs around 22 pounds sterling and also has an active carbon filter. That filter doesn't stop it getting gungy after a week or so which means you end up with yet another annoying chore in the household: cleaning the water fountain.
