freeware, frivolous but fun

TextOn9 – control your computer via a keypad

Image

TextOn9 is an onscreen keyboard that allows you to use a numeric keypad to drive a PC the same way as texting on a mobile phone. You can use anything that sends numbers to the PC including a keyboard, a Bluetooth mobile phone (HID profiles available by clicking through) or even a Windows remote control.

Use the onscreen keyboard as a reference and bash away; press 2 for A, press 2 twice for B, press 3 for D and so on but without predictive text. It’s a horrible way to write your great novel, but it might come in handy for something, just don’t ask me what. Only works with Vista and Windows 7 and needs .NET 3.5. There’s a review here.

TextOn9 is a numeric on-screen keyboard that handles text like the keypad of a mobile phone. The user can press the number keys on the keyboard, hit the virtual buttons of the application or use any other device that could send the numbers 0-9 to input text.
