RoamEO Pup is a GPS tracking system for pets. The collar contains a GPS receiver so it knows where it is, which it then broadcasts to the LCD handset receiver. The receiver can track up to 2 collars at once and it shows you where they are on the LCD display so can get directions to your pooches and the distance.
The signal from the collars can be detected up to 3 miles from the receiver and the batteries in the collar will last between 18 and 30 hours. The collars are weatherproof and adjustable from 12″ – 24″ in diameter. You can pick up a RoamEO Pup for US$279 and it includes the handset, one collar, and a battery charger for both.
The RoamEO Pup receiver provides direction and distance to your dog, and can track up to two dogs at one time. It also will provide an Indoor Mode setting, where you can track your dog outside, while remaining indoors.

You might also like the PetSafe GPS Pet Locator. This model utilizes satellite tracking through a GPS-enabled collar. The locator lets you know if your dog goes outside an established boundary by email, phone, or text message and sells for less than $100.
This looks like a good deal. No monthly fees like most gps tracking. Downside is the range probably. But I would speculate the monthly fee services rely on cell phone networks being available.
Anyway, I will probably get this. We have a decent sized back yard that we cannot fence in (thank you neighbors) and I like to let the dog outside while I work. I have been looking for something just like to to let me know if she wanders outside out yard.
She's also a bit of a hunter and when we walk her in the woods we almost always have her on a leash, but it would be nice to be able to practice walking without the leash and know that if she suddenly takes off we have a way to track her down.
