USB Soldering Iron – Too hot to handle

Image

I had no idea that USB could provide enough power to heat a soldering iron but someone has figured it out and this USB Soldering Iron from Thanko is living proof. It’s capable of heating the tip to 200C and even 300C if you use two USB ports. Pretty sure it’s not good for your battery life though.

If that’s still not enough it even comes with a 9V battery to USB adapter that will push the tip temperature past 350C up to 500C. The soldering iron even has an LED work light in the tip. 2480 (about US$28) or 4560 (US$52) from GeekStuff4U .

Take power from PC USB terminal “soldering iron” is! 1 USB port or 2 ports, or even 9V battery can also be used. Maximum temperature is the temperature of about 500°C and no less a power outlet and neck with a soldering iron!

  • This is never going to work. It's not the temperature but amount of heat the rod can give off. The USB port can give up to 2.5 W max. A 2.5 W soldering iron is laughable.

    • The blurb on the website says 4-6 Watts but yes it's a bit of an emergency soldering iron I'd say.
