GE Hybrid Electric Heat Pump Water Heater – Super efficient hot water

gehybridhotwaterheater

The GE Hybrid Electric Heat Pump Water Heater is more than a mouthful, it’s also an Energy Star certified water heater. Electrical hot water heaters are typically the highest contributor to a household’s power bill after air conditioning. GE claim their Hybrid Water Heater can reduce energy expenses by up to 62% (US$320/year) by using two different methods of heating water.

The hybrid part comes from using a Heat Pump to remove heat from the air and transfer it to the stored water. This takes longer than direct heating but it only consumes 550 watts of power. If you need more power for visitor’s showers, then the electric element kicks in providing more hot water with a shorter recovery time.

It’s all overseen by a smart controller that lets you juggle the settings and GE have even provided a vacation mode for ultimate efficiency yet doesn’t leave you with cold showers the day you get home. The GE Hybrid isn’t available until November and it only seems to come in one size, 50 gallons, but I’m sure there will be others.

Save energy and money, without changing your lifestyle. The new GE Hybrid water heater with heat pump technology is designed to provide hot water in the quantities you demand but uses up to 62% less energy than conventional water heaters.
