7 Inch Touch Screen GPS – High definition navigation for peanuts

Image

You don’t see too many removable GPS units that can boast a 7″ screen, but here’s one for under $150 and it has 800×480 resolution screen (at an impressive 133dpi) to boot. This 7 inch Touch Screen GPS (CVMF-CS34) is part GPS and part media centre. It will pair with your phone via Bluetooth and do the usual answer and hang up calls, but it also has an FM transmitter for caller playback over the stereo. It also has a built-in microphone.

The media player can play mp4(h.264) and avi (XviD) videos as well as the usual mp3, wma and wav, transmitting the audio via the FM transmitter to the car stereo. It will display jpeg images and it doubles as an ebook reader for txt files. It has a headphone socket and comes with earbuds, windscreen mounting kit and an SD card (up to a maximum of 4GB). The rechargeable battery will last 3-4 hours, or 150 hours in standby. The only thing it doesn’t seem to have is a case of any sort.

The catch to all this gadgety goodness is, that you have to supply your own GPS software to install on it, but you can buy third party stuff from eBay. The heart of the GPS is SiRF Star III and the unit itself runs WindowsCE 5.0 so compatible software will be easy to find. Best of all, the whole thing is just US$155. Bargain.

If the CVMF-CS34 was just an outstanding 7 inch GPS navigator it wouldn’t be a Chinavasion product would it? So hold onto your seats everybody, this GPS navigator features a 7 inch touchscreen with high definition 800 x 480 screen resolution. That’s almost double the screen pixels of other GPS handhelds. The benefit to you is that not only do maps display better, but coupled with the CS34’s remarkable multimedia player, you’ve got an incredible entertainment machine on your hands.
