Open Source software destroys capitalism – according to the music and movie industry

Apparently the International Intellectual Property Alliance [site down right now – cache], which is an organisation representing entertainment cartels like the movie and music industries, is lobbying the US government to declare that countries which promote free open source software are ‘enemies of capitalism’.

The way they’re doing this is to request that these countries be put on a Special 310 trade watchlist, which identifies nations as anti-capitalism. Brazil, Indonesia and India are singled out for this amazing claim, and no doubt pretty soon the USA itself (which recommends open source products) and places like Denmark, the UK and…well…pretty much the whole of the Western World, which relies on Apache open source software to manage the servers of the World Wide Web.

Wonder what it’s like to be completely insane and living on Planet Pluto, surrounded by all these horrible communist nations trying to destroy your livelihood?
