That hotel’s recycled from what?

recycle

We’re all familiar with recycling paper, plastic, metal, cardboard and a host of other things. But how about luxury hotels made from recycled airliners or battleships?

Boeing-747-b

Strange as it seems, Swedish entrepreneur Oscar Dios has turned a retired Singapore Airlines Boeing 747-200 into what he calls a Jumbo Hostel – an 85-bed hotel that he’s now parked at the Arlanda Airport in Stockholm. With 25 rooms – priced at $500 a night for a room and dorm rooms with bunk beds for $52 per night, along with a cockpit suite, all with overhead luggage compartments, Dios believes there will soon be more of these unusual hotels around the world.

MV Doulos

Then there’s the MV Doulos, recently bought by Singapore businessman Eric Saw, who plans to invest 7.5 million Singapore dollars ($5.33 million US) to turn the world’s oldest ship into a luxury hotel with restaurants and a book store. To be rechristened the the Doulos Phos (meaning “servant” and “light” in Greek), the luxury hotel will feature luxurious rooms, banquet rooms, a maritime museum and offices.

Now THAT”S the way to travel, don’t you think?

  • "turn the world’s oldest ship" that's not the world's oldest ship. Not even close.

    • Good point, but I suspect what the original article means is the 'oldest working ship'?
