Central Engineering MR04A – the ultimate security cabinet system

The rather clever Central Engineering MR04A Security Cabinet (catchy name, dudes) is an RFID based system which can manage and control access to devices and objects such as keys, medicines, mobile phones or tapes etc using a computer controlled scanning system.

Just stick the RFID tags onto your items and the system does the rest, automatically logging them in and out of the cabinet as they’re used and returned. The thing also keeps a computerised history log of what’s been in and out and also who took it, based on user access codes and their ID card.

The really clever thing is the fact that the cabinet has multiple inbuilt RFID readers on each shelf which can capture object IDs no matter how jumbled up the tags are, so you can just sling the returns back into the box and the system will scan and identify what’s been returned with no user input needed at all.

The box copes with over 500 objects and up to 1000 users, which should be enough for most small companies or departments, although you’re going to need to hand over nearly $50,000 if you want to own such a neat bit of tech. Cool video here.

Central Engineering presented a security cabinet for storing and managing keys and and other objects using RFID technology. In this cabinet, keys, mobile phones, and the like with wireless IC tags are stored on pull-out shelves. Their removal and return can be managed, and their histories can be checked, in integrated fashion using a PC.
