Genie Timeline Free – freeware backup software for Windows

Genietimelinefree3

Genie Timeline Free is the freeware version of the mainstream backup and restore software from Genie-Soft. Despite trumpeting the fact that it is the world’s first free complete backup software, it’s not. It is not the world’s first, nor the most complete, but hey, this is marketing right?

As a basic protection it’s fairly OK. There’s no scheduling, no bare metal restore with recovery disks, no compression, and no auto purging of older backups, all of which makes the product much less than complete.

What it does have is a nice simple user interface via a backup wizard, and some nice features such as auto resume for times when your backup hard drive may not be available. I also like the simplicity of the timeline restore function. All in all this is suitable for your granny’s first backup and for that reason alone we’re saying it’s worth a look. If you want more serious backup functionality you’ll need to check out something like Paragon Backup & Recovery Free.

Setup is done in 2 simple steps during which you can choose to use smart selections or customize data to backup through a friendly user interface. The simplicity of Timeline revolutionizes the term “set it and forget it.”

  • On the Windows side, I've been pretty happy with FBackup, http://www.fbackup.com/

  • I used different backup softwares over the years, paid and free, all are very complex, I'm a tech guy, but honestly i always wanted something like Apple Time Machine, even considered switch to apple, though i don't like Mac system, i justed tried Genie Timeline, thanks for mentioning it, always wanted something just to install it and never to worry about it, or start backing up while i'm in the middle of my work! or nagging! from my readings and testing, i think this is a good product, like Apple Time Machine, and I think i may switch to pro edition for disaster recovery and encryption features, and i like the protection level thing, its very nice! i was 100% then i changed a document file on desktop changed to 99%, then after a while back to 100%
